Jeff Withey defensive player of the Game. Nothing spctacular just great height and reach. A taller Chandler Parsons. Had 10 blocks the game before. Big 12's defensive player of the year. Robinson and Whithey are a better combination than the Morris twins. Another good second rounder surprise. But he probably won't come out this year.
If Kendall Marshall played, we would be talking about how great Zeller looked today. And next Friday. And next Monday. Don't even begin to talk yourself into Withey. Might as well go after Brian Zoubek.
Withey had another great game. Shut Sullinger down. That was impressive. He is a Parsons like defender.
I'm a KU fan. Whithey did NOT look good today. He couldn't get positioning in the post at ALL against Sullinger, he was clumsy, being overpowered by guys his size and not using his own size to his advantage. He did have a pretty decent defensive game though. The people that made this team successful on the boards were Robinson and young. ....in short, ok defensive game, clumsy passes, and bad offensive game with poor positioning
I guess I should rephrase it as another great defensive game. I am not a Kansas fan but I have watched the last 3 games in the tourney and IMO he has been the difference maker. Last night he blocked seven and altered another 3-5. Yeah his offense was off but it is clearly the defense that makes him special. ANd if what you say is true, that he is a better offensive player than what he has showed than I think he is worth a late first rounder. By the way that last traveled where he scored was a bad call. That should have been an and 1. He may just be the only person who can disrupt Davis. That will be the real test. If he can slow down Davis that makes him NBA ready.
Not impressed with Withey as an NBA prospect on either end of the floor. Slow on his feet and doesn't seem to be very strong.
Besides good timing on blocks, the biggest advantage that Withey has is free throw shooting. If you're a seven footer with good hands, touch around the basket and can reliably make free throws, you have a shot. That separates him from the the likes of Chenowith, Aldrich, etc. as an NBA prospect. That said, I think his lack of strength is the real issue. In the two games against Mizzou, Withey should have been an enormous mismatch inside... but he didn't have the coordination/strength to assert himself against 6-5 Kim English, and he was a virtual non-factor in both. Overall, Withey has a few rare skills (for a guy his size) that make him intriguing... but his limitations are such that he shouldn't be taken any higher than 20 or so. Developmental guy where you see what happens.
LOL WOW If he is Brook Lopez as you say, why do most Mocks have him at the end of the 2nd round to undrafted Surely a player of Brook Lopez talent is 1st round worthy
