Would the Texans be nuts for trading Foster midseason?

Precisamente. These are all points that I brought up as well.

-He has only really played two seasons
-There are precedents showing that he can last much longer
-His contract is a steal for his potential and for what he has already done

And his style of play is not even that conducive to taking a lot of damage. He has averaged 4.7 yards per carry (off of 600+ attempts, which is frankly pretty incredible) and approximately 10 yards per catch (off 100+ attempts). You don't trade someone like that, especially when taking into consideration that he's arguably your best player. End of story.

Honestly, I hate NFL hypothetical trades. Because NFL trades work so differently from other sports. Anyone who doesn't at least have a basic grasp of NFL's CBA should never ever bother to think about trade scenarios, because 99% of them can't work no matter how you look at it.

Arian Fosters was given a $12.5mil signing bonus. If the Texans trade him this year, $10mil of that bonus will be accelerated to their cap next year. That's $10mil of dead money. For reference, that's how much Joseph signed as a FA per year. It is literally impossible from a financial standpoint to trade Foster. This is why you almost never see big trades in the NFL. Because accelerated bonuses can really screw teams over.

Whether or not fans like, Foster is now the face of the franchise. Andre Johnson is a borderline HOFer but he will never be the ambassador that Foster is. We live and we die by him for the next four years. He's not going anywhere.

I don't think anyone would argue that any component of the game can transcend championships. But there's a certain standard you as a fan will eventually set, where you become so ingrained in the fate of a player that you say to yourself, "Our fate is in this guy's hands. We win and lose with him." That modicum of trust is required so that, when it finally does pay off, you can believe that you were there from the start and not a bandwagon fan. It's the reason Rockets fans still love Olajuwon in the face of Jordan. We won and lost with him, and that's what made the two championships in the back half of his career so special.

Foster has a chance to be regarded in a similar such manner.

The fact that the OP keeps arguing his point is laughable, and screams idiocracy. He must not be a football fan. Foster is going nowhere.

Pulled muscles don't count as "injury history." Ben Tate broke his ankle. Ben Tate is only two years younger than Foster, and he's not as good. He'll also probably be gone when he demands more money on his next contract (he'll probably want more than Foster got/asked for).

I like Tate, but Foster is arguably the best running back in the league (definitely top 3). You don't trade your 25 year old, best running back in the league. Period.

Then what if Ben Tate blows up big in 2 years? Deal Ben Tate and keep doing the same shuffle? That way you'll never have an RB turn 26 on the team before "their wheels fall off"?

You're living too much in some "SELL HIGH" concept. The reason teams sign their guys to big contracts like that is because they ARE VALUABLE to THEMSELVES FIRST as an asset WORTH KEEPING.

Curtis Martin former RB just got elected in the HOF. He arguably had more productive years the 2ND HALF of his career than the FIRST half. There was NO DROPOFF

The ONLY reason I'd agree with you is simply because NFL has become more a PASSING league. But I'm sure the Patriots would love someone other than Danny Woodhead to try to win the SUPER BOWL with.

This has to be one of the worst threads I have ever seen in this forum. Foster is something special, he is one of the humble stars we have in the athletic world, the fact that we have him and AJ baffles me. If you have read anything about Arians past and seen him talk about his goals and his press conference after he signed the new contract you would know how humble he is.

The guy really wants to go down as one of the best all time. Comparing him to cj2k pay me is one of the dumbest comparisons you could make. Arian is not worried about being the Hughes paid rb or nfl player, he wants to win. The idea of tradin him for draft picks is ridiculous. There is only a handful proven players I would trade him for and those are qb Super Bowl MVP types like Rodgers or Brees.

Lastly, your are obviously not a texans fan to spew out such idiocracy, get out of this forum!

So you want to trade away a minimum of 3-4 years of superstar production...for a 3rd round pick and a back up QB? This, at a time where the Texans are peaking?

Out of curiosity, I've wanted to know, what is the reason for Chris Johnson's massive fall-off anyway? And is there a possibility of the same thing happening to Foster?

I'd venture to guess that Chris Johnson got lazy with his new contract.

He probably also didn't workout in the offseason, then missed all of training camp holding out. Add that to the Titans having a below average line and little passing game and you have a disaster. But his bad season was probably 90% on him.

Chris Johnson had massive fall-off because he held out in the training camp, and started training almost when the reg. season started, so he didnt have time to train, and started very rusty.
