You are the man, thanks so much for this:grin:. That first 2 minute video does not feel right though without any footage of Max, OT & Casselll. It is as if these were the only important part to our back-to-back championships.

Thanks! I like how they also gave Don Chaney his due, that guy basically set the foundation along with the general manager Patterson. Did you see the way Bill described he really felt Thorpe should've been in? I think the media representatives, who also had a vote in this, might have given Horry / Elie the nod over Thorpe for whatever reason.
The only reason the deal was made for Drexler was that Drexler forced his way out of portland to play with his buddy hakeem, nothing more or less. If the rockets had anything thought at all, it was hakeem demanding that the deal get done. Your reasoning is a bunch of hogwash. I don't even see how the rockets won their first championship, with the kind of non scorers hakeem had around him, according to you.
Like I said, stop pretending to know about the Rockets. You are one of the most misinformed and ignorant posters on this board.
Yeah I'm uninformed: http://www.nytimes.com/keyword/clyde-drexler Clyde Drexler, who played 11 1/2 seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, today got the trade he had requested, going to the Houston Rockets with forward Tracy Murray for forward Otis Thorpe. The defending National Basketball Association champions will also give Portland a conditional 1995 first-round draft pick and the rights to 1993 second-round draft pick Marcelo Nicola. Drexler, 32, a teammate of Rockets center Hakeem Olajuwon at the University of Houston, is Portland's career leader in scoring, assists, steals and rebounds. Your previous post sounded like a kid who grew up watching basketball and what you think transpired based on current (and I stress current) nba knowledge. It's not rooted in reality. Clyde and hakeem orchestrated this deal for themselves, plain and simple.
Clyde requested a trade because Portland was re-building and Portland obliged by trading him to a team he would have liked to play. Clyde made it very clear he did not want to be part of the re-building and Portland did him a favor because of his long history with the team. Rockets came to Hakeem with the proposal and he had no objection to it. No one is even arguing that! None of that changes WHY THE ROCKETS MADE THE TRADE, (injuries to players, Vernon suspension, stagnating offense etc.) which I detailed and which you chose to ignore (and I am not surprised). The reasons I listed were confirmed by multiple Rockets sources/interviews. Look, this is not the first time you have pretended to know about the Rockets. You dont need to pretend.
where's the sources? I have my source: the players themselves: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1995-02-19/sports/9502190305_1_bulls-otis-thorpe-deal Horry hated the deal. Carl Herrera hated the deal. Who didn't hate the deal? Hakeem. There's my source; where's yours? Oh I forgot your childhood memories.
Oh yeah and Sam Smith recognized this at the time of the deal: The Rockets' deal for Houston native Clyde Drexler is risky. The Rockets have been one of the league's poorest rebounding teams, and they gave up their second-best rebounder in Otis Thorpe in a conference that has Charles Barkley, Shawn Kemp, Karl Malone and Dennis Rodman. and Mario Elie hated it as well. But let's not forget your childhood memories. They mean a lot.
Horry and Harrerra are not Rockets management who made the deal. The trade was made by Rudy/Dawson/Les. What does players hating the deal have to do with WHY THE ROCKETS MADE THE TRADE?!? You cant seriously be this dense can you? I had already mentioned that Horry was not happy because he and Thorpe were close, however he quickly warmed up to the trade once he saw Drexler on the floor. You have provided absoluletly ZERO source as to why the Rockets made the trade. Now here are the sources RELEVANT to the topic.... http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/ar...d=1995_1256822 "We know this is going to change the team," Tomjanovich said. "I would hope it does alter the team's chemistry because it was like we were running in mud." "I think we're going to be able to score points a little easier," Tomjanovich said. "Clyde is the kind of player who can create situations for himself, can make things happen in the open court and can make things easier for other players on the court." "Rebounding is always a problem, but I'd like to remind everybody that we won the NBA title last season despite being the worst offensive rebounding team in the league," Tomjanovich said. Also please go back and watch some of the interviews with Rudy, Dawson, Les who orchestrated that trade and addressed WHY THEY MADE THE TRADE. Also, you are more than welcome to look at how many games Hakeem, Horry, and Harrerra missed due to injuries and how many games Maxwell missed due to suspension. Argument: Why did the Rockets make the trade? My source: Addresses why the Rockets made the trade. Rudy's and Dawson's comments [below] confirms my points. Your source: Why some of the Rockets did not like the trade. *laugh* Do yourself a favor and take a critical thinking class at a community college. You need it.
Here is another source for you. You know, from the people who were responsible for the trade. Not from some player on the bench who didnt like the trade. http://www.chron.com/sports/rockets...ckets-was-sweetest-ever-valentine-1651745.php Struggling champs Except that after going 9-0 to start the season, the defending champions never could find a rhythm. They bickered, they struggled, they suffered through a seemingly endless string of injuries and were getting desperate by the night Drexler and Olajuwon met for dinner. That just happened to come after Drexler's Trail Blazers had walloped Olajuwon's Rockets 120-82. "You're talking about a team that had won a championship, and you want to give them every opportunity to repeat," said Carroll Dawson, Rockets general manager who was then an assistant coach. "We kept thinking that if we just gave those guys some time, that it would eventually come together. "But something always seemed to stop us from getting on a roll and, at that point, we pretty much knew we needed a shot in the arm. You've got to give (head coach) Rudy (Tomjanovich) and (owner) Les (Alexander) and the whole organization credit."
Zboy, don't waste your time, we all know it's not just Clyde & Dream getting together though that was a bonus and they might have pushed for it, that's alright. Dream always like Maxwell but I'm sure going into the stands and getting suspended, probably a lot of other things behind closed doors, that made him and the rest of team turn on Max. I didn't know before but today been reading up on the trade and Vernon didn't show up at first after Drexler was traded. He refused to practice and Rudy T basically said he couldn't deal with the guy anymore. Nobody knows what's going in Max's head and what he's going to do next. I understand more now why they would want to get rid of him. Thorpe being the victim is still unforgivable, he was heartbroken.
This is not the first time "what" the poser has pulled this stunt. I am not quiet sure why he tries so hard to be "knowledgeable" about the Rockets.
My cosigners were the sources I posted from the Rockets brass. Have any source other than who like/disliked the trade? Substance please.
Dude this is what you said: Drexler was brought in for two reasons: Opinion: 1) To make sure the Rockets get into playoffs. With Hakeem out, Rockets had NO ONE who needed to be double teamed. With Drexler on-board the Rockets were immediately able to run isolation plays and command double teams. The trade paid of immediately. Opinion: 2) To get Hakeem some help in terms of carrying the offense. I am not talking about just scoring points here. I am talking about creating shots for yourself and others. I have never seen a championship run where the team had relied so heavily on one man to carry the offensive load as was the case with the 94 team. Rudy used to struggle to give him a couple of minutes of rest a game. This was taking a toll on Hakeem and Drexler was brought in share the offensive load. Opinion: 3) Easy baskets. Drexler was one of the best open court players. All iterations of Clyde is a star. You seriously want me to take you seriously. I don't remember hearing CD or anybody saying that Clyde was brought into insure the Rockets MAKE the playoffs; but I'm pretty sure nobody makes a deal NOT to make the playoffs. That was some staggering insight there. Clyde is a scorer. And one of the best open court players. Way to point out the obvious. Does anybody disagree that he is or was one of the best open court players ever? And i still don't see how what he was pertains to the trade. Conversely, OT was one of the best rebounders and defenders in the game. But that doesn't make or unmake my point. You said that YOU had never seen a championship run where the team relied on one man to carry the offense. That's probably because you weren't looking hard enough. Your whole argument is filled with opinion and common knowledge that is meant to stand for a poor argument. If your opinion is that the rockets made the right move; and you used these points. I'd respect you more. But you didn't.
You are just silly. Everything I said was confirmed with the quotes I provided from Rudy and Dawson. Plain as daylight for anyone to see.
So CD and Rudy said that they never seen a championship run where the team relied on one man to carry the offense? I must have missed that one.
