Take your analysis a step further. It's not just about wins and losses, but how you get to that point. Yes, they were 1-5 in the division in 2009. Of those five losses, two came amid meltdowns from Kris Brown, who prior to 2009 was a VERY good and reliable kicker. Make those kicks, win those games and you're 3-3 in the division and 11-5 overall. In both games against the Jags, the Texans were down 7 or less in the final five minutes and on the doorstep... but Chris Brown's one-inch-line fumble and halfback-pass-turned-INT ended each.

It's not just about the Browns, of course. There were about a dozen ridiculously improbable variables in 2009 (see my post above) that all went against the Texans. And yes, to an small extent, you can chalk it up to leadership or "not knowing how to win" or some intangible like that. But big picture, the Texans as a franchise just had really ****ty luck that year. They had playoff team written all over them, from a talent perspective and the weak schedule (NFC West).

No one in this thread has even mentioned that Dreessen went to high school and college in Colorado. Once the Broncos entered the picture, there was a good chance we were never going to get him back, no matter the offer.

Are you sure? Are you sure it's not Rick Smith's fault?

Hate to see Dreesen go, but I'm happy to see him get a nice contract as a #1 TE in an offense that surely will be suited for him. Can't blame him for signing there, it's a great situation for him.

Never seen a fan base overreact so much to losing players that are incredibly easy to replace...its been the story of the offseason.

People keep saying these guys are easily replaced, why were they starters then? Why didn't other guys play ahead of them?

Foster and Myers were not additions, whoever said that SMH.

We lost an unusual number of guys who got significant playing time. The reason is most teams draft well and those draft picks WIN roster spots and starting positions. This team has drafted like crap and lost starters because you can't pay everyone.

    Huh?

I thought it was generally accepted that we have drafted very well since 2006.

2006- easily one of the greatest draft classes of any team in recent memory

    Mario
    DeMeco
    C. Spencer
    Winston
    OD

2008- traded back and still grabbed our franchise LT in D. Brown

2009-another legendary draft possibly better than 2006. This was also the year we signed some guy named Arian as an undrafted free agent.

    Cush
    Bar win
    Caldwell
    Quin
    Casey
    McCain
    Nolan

2011- watt looks like a perennial havoc wreaker

    Am I missing something?

We are losing Winston, Brisel, Vickers, Dreessen, Ryans, and Mario Williams and we are replacing them with players that the Texans coaches believed were worse than them last year. It's pretty clear the Texans have gotten worse.

You just lost all credibility with that. Game, set, match

Yes you are. They have drafted 1 DB that has contributed in a significant way. He is currently the 3rd best DB on the team.

2007........nothing, total flame out without Jacoby freaking Jones who is BY FAR the best from that draft. Not good.

2008 we got Brown, and.......................no one else is still on the team.

2010 Kareem "Falling Down" Jackson has the most starts but frankly, sucks. Your first round draft pick should not be the 5th best DB on the team in his second year. Ben Tate is the best player from that draft and Darryl Sharpton got starts, but in the end you got a bust DB and depth. Its better than 07 by far, but it isn't good by any means.

That is 3 out of 5 drafts recent drafts that have been BAD. 2011 looks promising but I have questions on all of them except Watt. Brooks Reed was getting blocked by air on some of his sacks and knockdowns. Who knows how he looks going forward. If all we get out of that draft is Watt, it will be 2008 all over again.

Show me 1 team with a better collective draft since 2006.

The 2006 and 2009 drafts speak for themselves.

2007 is the only draft that hasn't produced something of value.

This team may be guilty of a lot of things but bad drafting ain't one of them.

2006 is now irrelevant. You cannot count it anymore sorry. Even the longest contracts from that draft are over, all players from it obtained some form of free agency. Our window with those guys is gone. Not to mention Smith wasn't even here for that draft. Also 2009 is not even close to 2006.

I wonder where the Texans fall with the rest of the league in terms of roster turnaround at this point. How many starters lost, players gained, etc.
