Health and salary are always a consideration - they have to be. Simply put, this is a league in which stars are everything and role players are disposable. Martin may not be a star be he's a lot closer to one than Bud ever will be. Ultimately, both are expendable. We need to keep working at improving the 3, but as it is, Bud is not going to start ahead of Parsons. But at a minuscule salary and the unlikelihood of someone offering a worthwhile trade for him, he can hang. The Martin-Lee situation is screaming moneyball. I'm very surprised Morey did not find someone to take Martin this past deadline, especially with Martin looking as if the Gasol-near-trade soured him on the team. Lee wants starter money and minutes...but you can't give that to him when a $12M guy is at his position. So in that roundabout way, yes, you *could* say that Bud should stay over Martin given the choice. It pains me, I've been in Kevin's corner for the last couple of seasons...but I don't like what I've seen from him this year.
Read the question in the post. I couldn't put the entire context of the question in the poll. I wrote the question because there are a few posters that think Chase is better than Kevin regardless of price.
Repped. The OP took what I was saying completely out of context. Martin is better, but I certainly don't think he’s 12X better. I think Lee deserves to start and going forward having Bud as the backup wing makes more sense considering salaries. I personally think it makes sense to move Martin for a pick this summer, whereas if we wait until next trade deadline we might not get one. Danny Ainge was willing to move Ray Allen (who’s better than Martin) this trade deadline for a first round pick, but nobody bit on it since it’s just a 3 month rental. I think Morey can use multiple picks to trade up for a player much better than Martin.
Martin 5 games before he was injured 29.2 PPG. Martin 5 games after he was injured 6.4 PPG. Maybe just maybe the injury was affecting his ability to compete with the best athletes in the world.
Straight up Martin is a better player, at least he was before this year. But budinger makes next to nothing(you can't just ignore that), and McHale can play him as he sees fit 5 min or 35 min if he's playing well. The refs have cut martins FT trick, and without his ability to get to the line at a high level, he isn't as much better than chase as you would think. Martin is a career 44% shooter, 38% from 3, 87% FT. Bud is a 44% shooter, 36% from 3, 82% FT. Budinger is a much better defender, assuming Parsons or Lee are usually guarding the premier wing player, Martin and Bud would play off the ball. Chase's off the ball D is spectacular, they both play poor on ball defense though. Bud is also a much better rebounder and passer in the flow of the offense. Unless Martin regains his prior form, the gap between him and Bud isn't that big. And Bud has a lot of other factors working in his favor. Courtney Lee is better and needs to start, any evaluation of Martin considers his value as a backup.
im a big K-Mart fan but I think thats what's going to happen if Lee keeps it up and Gragic...to get a superstar yeah...but who knows haha what if k-mart come back and be a superstar himself..that be nice n crazy...since its his shoulder whole time he wasn't consistent. but yeah we'll see..i wanna see Our oversea Center...cannot wait...and Lull...so maybe Lowry might be moved to think about it..if Lull come over.
this if Scola is staying then we dont need another offense only type player. If Scola was traded then Martin over Bud without a moments thought
Bud is a good good guy off the bench. But he is a 9, 10, 11 guy on a good rotation. He has had plenty of time and opportunity he could be more than that but he is inconsistent and at times bad. Martin is one of the most efficient scorers in the league. A rules change and a coaching change set him back but then he returned to his scoring self. The last 10 games before his injury we won 7 out of 10 and he averaged 25 points. And then he got injured and played injured and looked bad playing injured and then he started to play a little better again and reinjured the reinjury. How does that make him suck. He is overpayed right now because he is injured but the efficient scoring Martin that showed up in those last 10 games was paid about right. Now whether I want to keep him going forward is a good question that takes a lot of thought. First will he ever be as good as before the injury and second what ia a player like Martin with an expiring contract get you on the open market.
Neither one Go after a defender that can score Wallace might be available for a trade after Deron bolts.....Iggy....
We don't even need those.... We have Chandler and Courtney but ...heck get Evan Turner type of guy for backup or a Tony Allen.
1. Resign Lee 2. Move Bud to the backup 2 3. Have Morris back up Parsons 4. Make a trade that involve k-mart and/or scola (maybe even get Josh Smith)
I rather just trade them both, get a solid back up SG and start Lee and see what Morris can do as the back up, so I vote neither
What if we trade Martin and have Lowry as our starting PG and le as our starting SG and have Dragic back up both positions? We can have them all share the minutes, can give each 32 minutes and everyone is happy.
