How can any 2nd round pick be terrible. I would put Morey's record with 2nd round picks against anyone's other than spurs when they caught on to foreign players before everyone else did.

Honestly it is the nitpicking critics in this thread who expect Morey to be a god, not his supporters. For the most part his supporters fully understand that he isn't perfect, but realize that there are very few GM's who would do better under the circumstances. The critics want him to be absolutely perfect or be replaced. Of course they generally don't have any logical explanation on who he should be replaced with, or why that GM would do any better...

They want him to have predicted the future on Tmac and Yao and traded them before they got hurt. To get the absolute best player every single time on late first round and second round picks, despite the fact that most players in that range don't even make it in the NBA. To get a superstar when none was available. To convince the owner to change his mind on tanking, when Les has said option was explained and he wasn't interested. These are the god-like expectations of the critics not the supporters.

He's done a good job, but's Mchale's no Adelman. You give Adelman a 7footer and the same team Mchale has and we'd be nowhere near 8th seed. Letting Adelman go was a mistake because he was the best coach for our team and he was let go because Morey wanted more control.

It doesnt matter how much money Yao made us. Yao was done since that Portland series and the whole league knew but the Rockets. By bringing him back, Morey set us back atleast 2 years

Um, we didnt get Odom. We only got Gasol

Neither did Gasol. Which is what made the trade even worse. Since when does rebuilding require making a 31yr old sensitive bigman your centerpiece?
    Thats just ridiculous:rolleyes:

You're obviously in denial. He's always been soft and EVERYBODY who watched last year's playoff confirmed it.

You mention Nene like it was a lock for him to come here, untrue. Secondly, Nene's been a disappointment since he got his contract. Third, if we were lucky to land Pau & Nene we're still not better than Dallas, OKC, Lakers, San Antonio etc..

Adelman has an infinitely better frontline with Kevin Love and Pekovich. Kevin Love is in the running for MVP of the league. Are you really going to compare them to Scola and Dalembert? I fail to see how Adelman's team is in any better shape. As a matter of fact, the Timberwolves won't even make the playoffs.

The only major differences with our team this year is Dalembert and the emergence of Parsons. Adelman didn't get this team in the playoffs without Yao. McHale is doing it.

If you honestly think Adelman would have taken this team much further as constructed, how high of a seed could he have gotten? If were talking 6-7, which the Rockets are already competing for, it is a minimal difference between coaches at best. If you think Adelman could have led this team to a top 4 record in the West, wouldn't that be evidence enough that Morey has built a solid team? Top 4 in the West solidifies you as one of the best teams in the league. Either way, as we are currently in 8th seed, saying that Adelman could have done a better job than McHale this year, is acknowledging that the team as a whole, has drastically improved from last year to this year.

So the whole league new Yao was done, but you wanted Morey to trade his contract to another team? That's a pretty big flaw in logic.
It most certainly matters to Les that Yao was on the roster. He was making a ton of money not only through endorsements but with gobs of insurance money as well.

You said the we traded more than the Lakers in the trade. Odom was traded to the Hornets. Again. Obviously Martin, Dragic, Scola<Pau, Odom. It isn't even debatable.

It doesn't matter. Paul could bail immediately if he didn't like where he was going. Pau has many more years under contract. In any case, he never said he didn't want to play for Houston. He said that he wanted to remain a Laker.

That is a very myopic way to look at things. Pau has anchored championship defenses without Bynum on the squad. How do you account for that? His Drtg this year is 100. That is very good. I'm curious as to how one of the best rebounders in the league is soft. Let alone his Drtg or the fact that he can play center effectively deep into the playoffs. Were not even getting into his elite post game or passing for a big man. If you have seen him in person, I highly doubt you would call him soft.

Nene has confirmed he wanted to play here. It's old news. His situation certainly would have been very different had he opted to come here. Last year he was playing at an unreal efficiency. It is clear he was much more effective as a 5. Something he would have done with Pau manning the 4. Do you really think the team is better off with Martin, Scola, Dragic, Dalembert over Pau, Nene, Lin and Hayes?

If you don't think we could have beaten any of those 4 teams mentioned with Pau and Nene on the roster, where would you honestly expect Adelman to have us this year with the team as currently constructed?

    standard for GM.

    A. Good. you have to take your team to the playoffs consistently.
    B. Great. You have to be in A and take your team at least to the conference final.

I do not see Morey belongs to any of above. It is hard to understand that so many fans think Morey doing great.

By your standards, Chris Grant and Otis Smith are good GMs.

I agree. Les needs to fire Morey right now and pick up the best GM not employed right now: Danny Ferry. The man that turned a horrible team into consistent contenders and NBA finalist. His remarkable turnaround of the Cavs would surely be repeated in Houston.

I'm not sure why everyone who is the topic of any thread needs to become either a hero or a villain. Morey is just a guy trying to do his job, and he ran into more than a bit of bad luck with Tracy and Yao.

I'm sure his boss has never given him total freedom and he seems to try to work with the coach. Look at the different type of centers we have acquired recently.

It seems, or maybe I hope, that Morey and McHale are on the same page and given some time we can claw our way back.

    1. Do not know about the numbers in Steve contract but what I heard was low risk high reward.

    2. Last year not guaranteed and easy to unload and if this is one of Morey biggest mistake then it he is looking good to me

    3. Nobody knew a thing about Lin or thought he would ever do this. Injuries was Lin only saving grace and he took advantage. Lin was about to get cut by the NYK.

    4. JL3 has bounced around the league for a long time on ten day contracts.

    5. This was a clear mistake. Should have hired him after you let JVG go but that is because I am not a Rick fan.

    6. ehh I view them the same way

    7. There was a new trend happening which was Allstar joining forces. Can't force someone to come here if they don't want to. All you can do is try.

    8. Mistake but Morey makes very little in the draft if any

    9. Les is the one that does not want to tank.

Exactly. Nobody who likes Morey thinks he's infallible. It just makes the Morey haters feel better to think they, and they alone, have the ability to see that he's not perfect.

Drafting Chandler Parsons was obviously the biggest mistake...

Actually that is not a bad idea. or let's continue to make excuses for failure and pretend we are a contender.

And this tells us all we need to know about your ability to identify a good GM.

You are right. It's obvious that all NBA front offices are full of r****ds for not understanding that you need Danny Ferry's special ability for find Lebron.

Why Ferry still doesn't have a job is beyond me. Don't NBA owners know that if you hire him, he'll at least get you to the finals?

lol, this is a league based on wining. Wining ball games does not make you a good GM automatically, but at least you will qualify to be considered as good.

Those are two totally different concepts. Finding Lebron does not define you a good GM because of the obvious reasons. However, we can not judge you being a bad GM simply because of that, either.
