    That doesn't even make sense.

Given that Obama is half white/half black, whose side would he even be on?

Exactly. To me that is the biggest issue of this situation but I have a professional interest regarding this.

There is a saying that frequently comes up in self-defense circles "It's better to be tried by twelve than to be carried by six" Meaning that when in doubt in a self-defense situation it is better to kill the other person than to worry about the legal consequences. The problem with this is that if that is your primary consideration then you might not think about avoidance or retreat in the first place. In the case of James or Zimmerman there is a murky situation where they very well might believe they are acting out of a legitimate fear and the broadest reading of the law backs them up.

This is probably the most difficult thing to teach regarding self-defense, when do you flee and when do you fight. I always teach avoiding dangerous situations and if you find yourself in one backing out of those situations. When you have to fight you fight for your life. In both the Zimmerman and James situation it doesn't appear like either of them considered just backing down, or just not being there. IMO if FL's law was clear that retreat has to be considered first before deadly force tragedies like these might be avoided.

You might be right and I feel the Federal case is primarily politically driven. The problem though is that for the specific case there doesn't seem much way for the Fed to get involved other than hate crime.

My own opinion is rather than looking specifically at whether Zimmerman violated Martin's civil rights the DOJ should be looking into the behavior of the Sanford PD.

Ask posters on a message board to be patient and wait for more info before making judgement, criticizes president for waiting to get involved.

Commonly states that "Nobody responded to me, I won, dur dur dur", commonly ignores post where he gets shat on.

Bigtexxx is only arguing for pride purposes only. He's had his @ss handed to him on this thread and he knows it. He will arguing ANYTHING to save face. You bring up Obama...he'll argue why he didn't say anything when he knows he would complain if Obama say anything at all about this case. You can replace Pres Obama with any name really as long as they are liberals and he will argue mute points. Insert Sec. Clinton...same argument...VP Biden...Ernie from Sesame Street..etc

What's the federal issue here? Is the DOJ going to start investigating every police agency in America now?

wow, this is what elicits a response from you in a thread like this. none of my posts listing details and facts, but one where you felt you were race baited and now you are here to tell me how you are appalled at my suggestion.

yeah-get over it. the article was in fact written by a black. good for you for seeing past that. yet you have been complaining about this article for over 10 days now like it's the only source of information provided about the Trayvon Martin tragedy.

now would you care to answer any one of my points I brought up or just continue trolling this thread?

I haven't weighed in on this, but today I think it's time. This whole situation worries on a bigger level than the case. This is the first time in modern American history that a man has been tried and found guilty over the internet. This mob justice mentality has the potential to lead us down a very slippery slope.

Don't get me wrong. If this case was truly being ignored, then I would be right with everyone calling for an investigation, but that's not the case. This man is under investigation and the case is going to a grand jury. If the evidence is there, he will be charged with a crime. Zimmerman isn't going anywhere, and he will have to face his day in court.

A young man is dead for no reason, and as frustrating as this is, we must let the justice system run its course. If we give into the mob mentality, we will have given up a very important part of what makes our country great, the right to due process.

Except all of this is happening only because of the attention it has gotten. Without that, it likely gets swept under the rug as self-defence. A huge spotlight is the best disinfectant.

Do you even know what the FBI's job is? It seems like a basic lesson in civics instead of hysterical posting on a BBS would do you some good.
