- Martin on most defensive possessions. - Martin standing still and staring while his teammates hustle after loose balls. - Martin standing in a corner looking disinterested while his teammates run the offense. - Martin choosing to shoot a 1-legged, off-balance 18 foot runner time and time again instead of showing a little grit and using his quickness to get to the damn basket. But maybe I'm just seeing things. Does anyone else dispute that the above happens regularly?
Martin is basically what Melo was on the Knicks pre Woodson. Now Woodson actually has Melo rebounding, defending and creating.
^-All of this-^ I'd like to see Kevin Martin play in the WNBA for one game. He'd get pushed around and womanhandled so bad.
Well I dont really have a ton of videos at my disposal so I can really only comment on what I have paid attention too. Don't really know about lose balls, havent noticed that. He is always cutting and moving on offense. The only time I don't see him moving is when its some form of Lowry iso play where people are just standing around watching him create via PnR. I think most people are seeing what they want to see.
Because we beat a lakers team that didn't have their center for part of the time and a warriors team that didn't have their center or their curry?
I bet if the Rockets traded Martin to the Bulls and they win the championship with KMart doing the same thing he did here, these same "fans" would all get pissed that we let an all-star championship caliber SG go.
You guys rag on KMart too much. Sure, he is not a superstar but he is a clear number 3 in a 'ship team.
He's a sixth man at best on a contending team. . Way too much of a defensive liabilty in the postseason as a starter
yet all we've heard from chicago is that they've been really gunning for Lee the past two years. As for Martin he will probably start but I am pretty sure Coach McHale has seen enough from Lee to give Martin less minutes and even pulling him from the starting lineup if he doesnt perform on the offensive end and doesnt at least put in the effort (which to his credit he has done more so of this season - still a below average defender though) defensively. We could use his scoring and his ability to get to the free throw line I am hopin though this injury doesnt scare him from attacking the basket when he returns
I'm not sure I buy that Courtney Lee is better, but I'm still ready for Martin to go on his way. I don't think McHale knows how to, or has any desire to use Martin properly in this offense. He doesn't run plays for him, he benches him at the slightest sign of Martin being cold. Martin is no all-star, but he has always been a solid contributing player for his teams when healthy--until now. Half of the blame for that falls on one Kevin, the other half falls on the other Kevin. I figure if we're not going to use Martin's talents we might as well get something for him and move on. Especially since his contract expires after next season.
Nobody has to pity KevMart, the self-pitying son of a gun is doing it himself. Never appreciated his game with the Kings, came to respect his scoring talents but all in all not a fan of his.
Nobody is pitying Martin... I'm just saying, it's clear Rick Adelman knew how to get the most out of him, and Kevin McHale has no idea what to do with Martin and doesn't care. Either way the end result is the same... Martin is not a good fit for this team under McHale.
It is not on Kevin McHale because Kevin should be able to exist in more than one system, because 12 million a year is not role player money. Morey admitted Martin was brought over for Yao, now that Yao is gone, Martin is actually just a stick figure in a cabinet. Pretty to look at, but very fragile.
$12M is definitely roleplayer money. It's at the upper end of roleplayer money but you'll never get an all-star for $12M on the open market. The only time you can ever get that production for that money is if they develop into an all-star on their rookie contract/RFA contract.
