I remember him scoring 23 a game and people got on him for no d. I remember Monty scoring 22 a game and playing even worse d and people wanting to join in the circle jerk. =/ Agree though, he should be playing off the bench. Lee can't lose the starting spot. His game mixes well with the rest of the starting line up.
You mean the BEST player on the team? He is so undervalued on this board it is amazing. He is not a great all around player but he is a pure scorer that can light it up. He is having a very bad year partly because Adelman's system was a perfect fit for him. McHale needs to find a way to better utilize his talents and get him going. Nagging injuries are another factor, but running on all cylinders he can make the difference between lottery and playoffs. There are probably less than ten players in the league that can drop forty on a given night, he is one of them.
I agree with you on all points, but find it so funny that he has been so under the radar, that when he's out you just don't notice it..
In a perfect world, Kevin Martin would come back and fully support the 6th man role. He would be the missing piece to this team. Right now, the starting lineup has great chemistry, the problem is that once they get a rest you just don't know what the bench can do. I mean, Patterson is solid and sometimes Bud shows up, but there's not that major threat off the bench to keep the offense flowing when the starters need rest. Martin could supply that to this team. All he has to do is accept the role. If he does that, then this team is going to be scary (especially against somebody like OKC in the playoffs).
Need to find a way to get him involved and in his comfort zone. Terrible fans will instead probably demonize him and run him out of town as usual.
Bud pulled a Martin and went for zero points... Martin and Bud coming off the bench is a viable option.
I don't remember him and I feel I'm a better person for it! Seriously, people saying that it's the coaches job to get him going but you either can straight play ball or you can't. He's just proving right now that he's a deficient player who has to be in the right system or have the right league rules in order to succeed. You can't be dependent on other facets of the game to determine your game....you determine your game. That is what a good player does.
I don't think the fans make much of a difference whether Martin stays or is traded. Don't know about you, but I prefer watching players who compete hard. If that's not how Martin wants to play, I'm not interested in his involvement.
I don't know who the best player on the team is at this point. Probably Chandler, maybe Kyle(assuming health), even Dragic deserves consideration .... As far as Kevin goes, he's a known commodity if ever there was one. You're right solid, he's a great shooter and with adjustments will figure out how to get back to the line. Even so, I just don't see him getting time.(20 game playoff push , chemistry issues) I'm pretty sure he's going to get shipped to a place where he can play off a skilled big. Heck, it wouldn't shock me to see him go out in a deal where we move up in the draft...taking back some salary. All that said, I'm admittedly bias as Martin's attitude/inmaturity/manipulative side has turned me off for years. Knowing Lurch...and the way HE wants the game played.......means no soup for KMart. Besides, Lee is a pretty darn good defensive player who is improving on offense....and will be much cheaper. (we'll see how much)
Went to the game and payed specific attention to him. He seemed really upbeat, joking with teammates, and was often the 1st person off the bench to give 5's to the players on the floor during timeouts or end of quarter. Didn't expect that at all. Maybe (hopefully) he really was having problems with his shoulder and needed a break (on top of the trade mentions). From my pov, I'd bet he's just now gettin over that hump
