ATW has a long history of loving on the Trader George brothers. He just likes them. I agree it is a puzzler when he rarely agrees with them but still takes their side in any dispute. Maybe it's a cultural thing like with David Hasselhoff in Germany or Jerry Lewis in France. Maybe he sees genius where we see only smelly farts.

 

Or maybe he was knighted by Liam Neeson and feels an obligation to defend the helpless.

Whether Zimmerman uttered a racial epithet prior to confronting Martin doesn't have too much bearing on the self-defense argument, it goes to motive but it's already established he was pursuing Martin, but is vital to the Federal case of whether this was a hate crime. I am guessing that is what Jeffrey Tobin was referring too when he said that was vital.

It's possible that Zimmerman is found not guilty under FL law for killing Martin but is found guilty of committing a hate crime Federally.

Everyone keeps jumping down bigtexxx' and gwayneco's throat, yet, none of the same people objected to this outrageous accusation by vlaurelio.

 

ATW, you seem to like being bigtexxx's white knight for some reason, what are your thoughts on this? Here he talks about stero-typing a group of individuals and not caring about it. Wanting to physically harm said group of individuals he has a racial prejudice against because they were exhibiting "suspicious behavior". Wow that sounds really familiar...hmmm?

He goes on to say the Arab community will be justifiably profiled in a negative manner by everyone and they should accept that because apparently they are all one in the same (sterotype). Bigottexxx has longed for more evidence in the Martin case while hypothetically accusing Martin of being on lean (stereotype), but here he takes the approach of profile and physically harm first, tell everyone who doesn't like to kiss his FIRST CLASS riding ass later. Other accounts of this incident say the woman's portrayal were over dramatized and that the group of men that didn't do anything were a GROUP OF MUSICIANS.

Thoughts? Don't forget he rides first class....

I already said that I disagree with bigtexxx insofar as I think that if the evidence so far known is not contradicted by other evidence, we know enough to know that Zimmerman is guilty.

But bigtexxx never actually said that he thinks Zimmerman is innocent. He said we need more facts.

Some posters actually said they think OJ is innocent.

That's a difference, no?

Yes, after saying you'd beat down Arabs for congregating by a bathroom and they'd deserve it because Arabs had done 9/11 and profiling Arabs was not only justified it was downright American, you said race has nothing to do with it and by doing so erased all prior comments you made.

A somewhat tangential story, but very related to the topic of civil rights and profiling:

An underreported story earlier this month was a faculty petition signed by over 400 faculty members throughout academia calling for the resignation of NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Deputy Commissioner Paul Brown.

The petition was in response to not only the well-reported surveillance activities being conducted against Muslims throughout the east coast, but also the overt profiling of the NYPD against Black and Latino people. Excerpt from the petition:

That's what we have you for. I give bigtexxx a hard time because he's being a dick about this. I don't give vlaurelio a hard time because I can understand getting baited and reacting poorly to trolling. If you want to give him a hard time, go ahead. If you want to report him, go ahead. I'm not under any obligation to criticize him for anything. He's not the problem here.
