I am impressed that there is not one single Kardashian joke in this thread yet.

well now we know why the Lakers wanted to trade him for nothing. They knew he was gonna to be a problem and got rid of him.

This reminds me of when t-mac blamed a string of personal losses, deaths, and tragedies as the reason or excuse for not living up to his potential.

Some guys in the league just don't have that killer instinct and want to play victim.

Essentially he is a big kid. Man up lamar

Judging by his play this season, I'm not surprised that he considered checking out of the game for a while. On top of all the drama around the original trade and then the trade for nothing to Dallas, Odom has always been a guy that had questions about his mental toughness.

I agree with the posters that say this is bad news for the Mavs. I'm not betting on him suddenly becoming motivated and happy with his situation.

    That's just ignorant

Tmac was dealing with an undisclosed family issue, he didnt blame his career on family deaths

He had lost a family member every year then his mother in law was dying from cancer at some point which he tried to keep silent about

Sometimes I think the mcgrady stuff on this board goes beyond common sense

Mavs are not gonna repeat, irregardless of how Odom plays. Chandler was too important for them and Cuban didn't realize that.

Well his decision to let Butler, Barrea, and Chandler go wasn't to win it this year. You don't want to overpay those guys for the next 5 or 6 years. Carter and Odom were band-aid solutions to hold them over this year. Next year they'll have a ton of cap room to go after Deron Williams and anyone else.

Kidd, Terry, Odom come off the books this year also.

players today are so weak mentally. Sharif abdur rahim played in vancouver for five seasons. That's torture. Everyone in Dallas thinks he is still on vacation.

hey all I said was that they reminded me of each other.

I'm not that big of an anti T-Mac guy. injuries is what ruined his career, but he made it a point to mention those hardships, you and I both know about them so clearly they have been used when he was having a particularly rough time in the league. why else would he mention them? he once made it a point in an interview to make the connection to a loss per year...

I'm telling Lamar to man up here, not Tracy. it's unfortunate, players have personal lives and sometimes life gets in the way of the game. some guys seem to handle it more professionally than others.

His mother in law. Really. All the cheating and running around he was reportedly doing on his wife. Didn't seem to affect him Orlando. And you really think he is that upset about his mother-in-law. TMac is a perfect example of wasted talent.

Yes dude, he had some issues a few games, which is hardly akin to Lamar's situation, and regardless of whether you think his career was wasted or not constant family members dying including a current one will always trump your job

If you haven't experienced any of it, then you need to be on your knees Thanking God you haven't had to deal with someone close to you dying of cancer

How do you deal with a death professionally?

..and sorry the loss of other family members was mentioned in a seperate article at a totally different time, not at the time that other situation came up.

It came to a head when Magic made a comment on tv but renegged later during the all star game after he talked to McGrady personally...the guy opened his mouth too quick being an ESPN talking head and all, its not surprising

By the way man... Lamar needs some counseling or something because he has deeper issues than just not being able to make jumpshots

Sickens me to see how mentally weak this guy is.

Hell, as much as I hate Kobe, you'd think after playing with him for so many years, some of Kobe's mental toughness would've rubbed off on Odom.

take some time off and get back to work.

it's too difficult to connect what you are trying to say as you defend T-Mac.. "a separate article" or "that other situation" is too vague. but I'm not interested in pinpointing the moment where Tracy explained his hardships over and over. he had a rough career and he had many wasted opportunities, I'm not mad at the guy though.

I think we both agree but im not defending Tmac, my original point wasn't about defense as much as it was these situations arent remotely related

Anyhow, Odom has some serious mental issues
