With D-Mo coming over next year it's like having an extra high draft pick already in our back pocket. That's always a nice safety net regardless of what happens. Playoffs with one draft pick + D-Mo? We could do a lot worse.
Exactly. It's sad that so many of you wanted the Lakers to win last night so we'd have an extra shot to draft the next T-Will or Thabeet or J-Hill.
Bima for a smart guy sometimes you just don't get it. Every poll oversimplifies things because you cannot list every possible option. This poll is no different. It eliminates all other options because I wanted to get a general feel how clutchfans felt given these two options. Nothing more and nothing less. It's not asking if you would rather tank or if you think the Rockets should lose to Dallas intentionally or what other various scenaorios are possible. Whatever happens happens and I am not advocating tanking or losing to Dallas 3 times. I am just asking a simple question. When the season is over with this year would you rather us be in the playoffs or have 3 first round picks. Make a choice between the 2 options or not but you don't always have to try to be the smartest guy in the room and over analyze things.
You play win - period. That said, if we miss the playoffs, but net 3 picks - that would be very nice.... Package 2 picks + Scola + Kmarts then expiring contract for a top flight PF....
He is stating facts. The poll makes it seem like we are choosing 3 picks or none but not even stating what happens if we get 3 picks. Playoffs is in the best interest of our team when you consider those factors.
I think it is always better to win and make the playoffs. I would want to establish an winning atmosphere, and often teams that consistently win in the playoffs have to start out "learning" by getting drubbed in a first round series. At the same time, I can't think of an instance when a team had multiple first rounders and succeeded with each. I am not an expert, but I remember one year that the Warriors drafted Vic Alexander, Chris Gatling, and a player from Kansas with a bad knee that may have been the best of the three had his leg recovered. Alexander was a mediocre talent, Gatling was OK, but it seems that when you have multiple #1s the salary you add isn't usually worth it.
I will be happy with either one, we can trade up those picks for some real talents, wouldn't mind rooting for a playoff upset either. If we do lose and miss the playoffs, I wish it would be against Dallas all three times.
If we kept 3 1st round picks, we'd be stuck the year they came up for renewal(as Bima said) especially with the new CBA rules. We could trade them to move up in the draft, But I'll never forget what happened the last time we did that. We could trade multiple picks/players for a star/superstar, but I wouldn't try that again as long as Stern is still the NBA dictator....I mean commish. My only option then is to play as hard as we can to make the playoffs and give our young players playoff experience. The playoffs are a whole different ball game and a 1st round exit still gives them valueable playoff experience. How can you not want this after our win against the Lakers last night?
We need to be in contention for titles. Not trying to pull a first round upset. I don't enjoy watching this team play much anyways to be honest. I'll take the pics.
People who honestly would rather get a first round playoff exit are looking at the short-term window and are not thinking about the future of this club. "Picks won't disappear", your damn right they won't, but a draft this deep won't happen before another decade to the least. Just look at the mock draft's, you have guys like Rivers, White, Wroten or Mitchell going in the late first round. That doesn't happen usually. Furthermore, if this team is in "win-now mode" (which is sad to say, FU Leslie), then packaging two lottery picks and a late first rounder plus a young stud could get us a Boston Celtic rebuild.
From Morey's post-trade interview, I think he would actually not mind if the Mavs would fall out of the top 10 this year and keep their pick. This gives the Rockets a small chance of getting a unprotected 1st rouder in 2018. Most likely won't happen, but as long as there is a chance, why not?
I'll also add that though i've do continue watching the Rockets, i've lost a great interest and feel kind of "forced" to continue checking out the games. I'm not as excited as I used to be, and outside of Lowry there isn't a prospect on this team that can change that. Go for the picks, go for some fresh flesh and bring in someone that will fill the arena. Blake-Griffin-style.
a deep draft doesn't mean there's 30 high level players. quite a few potential high lottery guys aren't entering the draft already.
without cp3 the blake griffin led team were lottery level and they had a team of similiar quality to the yao-franchise-cat team.
Who doesn't know that on this board. Almost everyone on this board knows we retain those draft picks at a later date. And in your opinion if you believe it's in the best interest of our team than say that. Plus he keeps bringing up this stupid flexibility argument. No team would give up the opportunity have a lottery pick now as opposed to having more flexibility later, It's not even like we can trade our first next year. We have to wait a year. So that flexibility is not as attractive as he claims. And that's not even accounting for how better I think this draft is than last year. Now I am not advocating tanking at all. I am not even saying I completely prefer missing the playoffs. I am actually on the fence. If we make the playoffs I will be rooting for this team 100%. I have even upgraded our chances in the playoffs since the emergence of Dragic and the addition of Camby I think we can do some damage in the playoffs if we can get martin to contribute and Lowry comes back healthy. But if we miss the playoffs after studying the draft, I am convinced we can really help ourselves. And certainly Morey has shown some agreement by desperately trying to pick up first round picks at the trade deadline. So I would be disappointed to lose out on those potential opportunities this year to upgrade our team. Even though we still get them later. I see this team as one scoring go to guy away from really competing. If we could use Lowry and whatever to nab Gasol and pick up one great scoring rookie and bring Donatus over I think that puts us right up there. SO for me barely making the playoffs with this team as opposed to supercharging the rebuilding process by having 3 drafts picks in a great draft is a tough call. But if we don't make the playoffs I will be happy to have those extra draft picks now and you won't be hearing me complaining about some loss of flexibility like Bima. IMO he overrates flexibility to the point of being kooky.
We have Courtney Fortson. We shall go far in the playoffs this year Winning is always much better than tanking
