This is a lot of churn for a team with such high expectations. I thought the 2012 draft was going to be more about depth than need, but not anymore.

I think the 90% goes into effect next year, the cap doesn't make the big leap until 2014 when the new TV deals hit.

Out of those I only would really focus on keeping Brown first, Barwin second. Unless some of the others make vast improvements this season they are largely replaceable.

Im surprised we were able to get that much for him...great move in my opinion.

Demeco played in 58% of the snaps...and very seldom did I see him to anything spectacular last season. Sure, he was coming off the injury...he'll still be coming off the injury this year and for the rest of his career.

Sharpton is a better option at a fraction of the price.

    Looking forward to the draft!!

Right, but PK said his signing bnus was 9M when it was really 7.5M. Also, we had it prorated over 5 years and it had already counted for 1.5M/yr against cap for the past 2 years. By my math that leaves 4.5M left that would count against us. His salary was larger than that, so the Texans still should have saved some CAP this year, and a bunch in the future.

If you seriously think that the Texans are merely trying to "maximize profit" by managing to trade an aging, injury-prone, two down player who has literally had declining production every year of his career (look it up!) then you should not only stop posting, but you should also consult a team of physicians to check on your cognitive abilities. You do know that the Texans have a bunch of good (as in on the field production and not giving inspiring speeches), young players coming up for renewal next year, right? You are surely also familiar with this thing called a salary cap? Do you really think DeMeco Ryans is a 7-8 million dollar a year player anymore in this system? Jesus.

I think he's right. The Texans need the cap space and it makes sense from their point of view, but the Eagles get a good starting MLB for cheap. To me, that means the Eagles won.

Wow, Texans treating their players like Daryl Morey!

On topic though: Like the trade. Ryans was making a lot in base salary that obviously needed tweaking. Now they just have to draft well.

Good one. Team physicians ha. Whos the author of that book of internet rules that determine who should post and who should not in sports fan sites? Is this supposed to be utopia where we all say, "great post! I'm happy we all have the same opinions!"?

I'm not sure why you felt the need to use an insult as your initial reply, but that's your prerogative. I really don't care if you registered here to tell people whether or not they should post on here, so I'll continue to explain my opinion. Are those still acceptable?

Anyway, of course I don't think Demeco is the only reason I have that opinion of McNair. This team played with a recovering Demeco, third string rookie QB, and Jacoby Jones taking snaps at WR and we still won a playoff game.

I would try to keep this group together as much as I could. I understand there would be subtractions because of the cap issue, but i didnt think we would dismantle a good chunk of the team to get under. Like I said, I may have mistakenly viewed the cap situation as fixed in terms of getting under it with cuts and andres restructuring alone. This lead me to believe that cutting guys like Winston and trading Demeco were unecessary moves to get under the cap since they already were.

Ok so word is we actually get the Bucs fourth round pick which the eagles traded for. Which I gotta believe is a top 6 pick in the fourth, anyone know? Plus moving up a dozen spots in the 3rd, I think that's a solid score for the texans. Demeco would get cut at the end of this season for nothing unless he returned to his rookie form. We should have traded Mario last season knowing there was no way we could pay him this season. Props to Rick Smith for looking ahead this time around.

    1) He ain't cheap

    2) He hasn't produced lately and may never regain his old form

This is a good trade for the Texans right off the bat, it's a "could be great" trade for the Eagles.

They better be able to change those draft picks in to contributing players. I found a mock draft that was updated after the trade and found some interesting stuff.

He gained his explosiveness as the season progressed. Played awesome-ly against the Bengals and Ravens in those playoff games. His leadership will be severly missed as he was like cushing's mentor. But it's the nfl, you have to do what you have to do.

Nice return on a player who was declining. Good move, now draft some depth!
