I think they may be clearing enough cap room to offer Wallace a decent contract that Pitt may not be able to offer. If he signs the tender, and goes unmatched I believe we gives up a 1st rounder....

    so is he worth it?!

    I think so.

I highly doubt we will be signing anyone..We are clearing cap room and preparing for next season (Schaub and Duane Brown)

Brown I understand, but everyone keeps talking about Schaub like he deserves even more money than he's getting now. I can't see us resigning him for much more than he's already getting per year (~$7.5m).

I hope this frees up cash for Wallace

Yes he's worth a first rounder, no I don't think that's what the Texans are clearing room for.

absolutely worth our late 1st rounder. not quite sure schaub is capable of the deep ball accuracy necessary to hit a burner like him in stride though.

I actually agree with you for once. Mike Wallace is just that fast.

Matt Flynn just signed a 9 mil a year contract with the Seahawks after starting 2 games in his career.

Is Mike Wallace worth a 1st rounder? Yes.

Is Mike Wallace worth a 1st rounder plus Unrestricted Free Agents(s) that the Texans can sign with Mike Wallace money minus ~$1-2mil for signing a 1st round pick? Only if he fits the Texans scheme REALLY, REALLY well.

The reason why teams generally don't sign RFA is because you give up both a pick(cheap labor) AND your capspace at the same time. It's a very steep price and only worth it for someone you absolutely love.

during the whole Ram's OJ atogwe drama, I kept hearing that you don't approach a player with that type of tender placed on him, like it was an unwritten rule. Kind of like you don't kill a made man in the mafia if you're not one yourself. a lot of greaseball stuff.

he is worth it, but nobody has the cojones to go through with it.

True, but he was a 'potential' signing. He put up an all-time game in one of his starts, so he was signed with the idea he could grow into something special.

Schaub isn't that way. He's a known entity. He's a solid quarterback that can look very good in the right system surrounded by a talented cast. He has no playoff experience, he has an extensive injury history, and he'll be on the wrong side of 32. With all that in mind he's not going to get a huge raise in salary from $7.5m Maybe 9-10m tops, but not a raise that requires extensive roster-clearing.

Next season will determine his value...based on other QBs from 2011, Matt Cassel (12.5 milion), Matt Ryan (12.75 million), and Mark Sanchez (17 million)...If Schaub has a healthy 2012, he will sign a contract somewhere in the range of 5 years, 70 million.

Brown will be getting a fat contract. If Barwin has another big year, he will get a major pay raise as well. Other guys in for nominal raises are Glover Quin and Brice McCain (if he continues to improve). Potentially 2 of our new O-line starters in Caldwell and Butler will be UFA's as well. Combine these guys with having to sign Schaub, rookies and current contracts going up, I can see the Texans wanting to go into next year with plenty of cap space opposed to how they did this year. Thus, I really don't see them signing anyone of significance like a Wallace for the rest of this off season.

Imagine that, AJ and mike Wallace on opposite sides with a burner like jacoby and a TE like Daniels and arguabley the best RB in the league, that would be a scary offensive and I'm okay with givin up parts of our d because wade is a guru and he WILL draft good jut like last year. I can't imagine the Texans jut letting all these key players go, without making a move in the offseason especially with this year being a true contender for the SB.

Yes, he puts up 1100+ yards a season with ease.

All I know is I sure as hell hope the Texans have some sort of splash in free agency.

    Or at least cut Jacoby.

    Either one would comfort me.

He'd be useless here since Schaub can't really hit a deep route on the fly. Notice how Dre always has to come back for the ball - Wallace wouldn't make as many of those catches.

Go for it, so what if we can't sign our free agents next year, there are no dynasties in football anymore, let;s just go all in while the pieces are in place. AJ and Schaub aren't getting any younger.

our FAs get picked off regardless, look what has happened already in just a few weeks

how do the Eagles manage to sign so many marquee players?

Can we seriously not do better than Schaub? Why would the Texans be so loyal to him? He is not a top quarterback
