Moving up in the 3rd is big and I like the 4th. Okay, this is better, I can handle this. Just hope we get guys that can at least make special teams for once.
I still have my faith in Wade to draft some good players on D, but I just don't think this defense will be as good statistically as it was last season. Losing a leader like this will hurt in the locker room. Demeco and Cushing were like brothers.
Agreed, but NFL trades are always harder to come by since waving players is so much likelier than in other leagues. GMs know odds are in their favor to wait it out most of the time. Good for Rick Smith getting a return if no Ryans was a decision made. Swapping 3rds is far better than getting a 6th
Our draft just got a lot more interesting in the past week. We now need WLBs, RT, RG, and WR...can basically pick BPA and still fill a need.
It hurts, but I expected worse. Goodbye Demeco. World class citizen and player. I can revive a little of my by-gone Eagles fan now.
And who have we signed that broke the bank? Was trading Demeco for picks really the best deal for THIS team? Tell McNair to take those extra picks and shove it. They should be in win right f'n now mode with Andre's age and window closing. Matt Schaub is no spring chicken. Wade Philips is not getting any healthier or further away from either retirement or getting one last hoorah as head coach. Demeco Ryand may not have been as productive as before, but you have to consider he was a leader on that D for years. I'm talking about they looked up to him. He also just came off of an Achilles year that just happened last season! There were no other alternatives? Jacoby? I'm all for protecting the future, but you have to sacrifice a little to giving Andre the best situation. 2 more rookies is a crap shoot for this year. At least get something to improve other holes like WR2 or CB2 in your scheme. Demeco is above average in a 4-3 defense. He went to a 4-3 team and should have yielded equal value.
That's a pretty good return for a player that apparently didn't fit in with the future plans of their defense. I'm happy with it.
I am gone miss Demeco. By far my favorite Texans player. Dude was a class act. Demeco, you will be missed.
Definitely a player that is going to be missed but if we became attached to every player we had and didn't look at this as a business to win games and protect this team for the future we would never get any better. There will always be cuts that need to be made in order for us to get better and compete without handcuffing ourselves with old and expensive talent. This cut is one of the deeps ones but it had to be done. At the end of the day we got a lot in return for him considering he has never gotten back to pro-bowl form.
After seeing what Wade did last year with Watt and Reed, I'm inclined to think he can bring in a rookie who can produce at or better than Ryans last year. I'd actually say this is fair value for Ryans.
