Wow, Eagles got a steal. Texans sure are losing a lot of people.

3rd rounder? No way we get a 3rd rounder. I would be surprised if it's a 4th rounder. I would guess maybe a 6th round pick.

There's this thing called a salary cap. The Texans have a lot of young talent, like Arian Foster. To keep them, you have to give them raises - sometimes significant. To afford that under a cap, you have to let overpriced veterans go. Didn't realize this was rocket science. Happens all over the NFL.

Marc Berman reporting the Texans get multiple picks. Guessing it'll be a 4th and a 6th, but not sure.

    If it's multiple picks, I'm guessing 4th and 5th.

Multiple picks sounds a little better.

I hate this. what, his arm never healed or something?!?! JJ Watt on NFL Network and Antonio Smith being interviewed. :( I am sad. We are dropping like flies.

I guess its better than cutting him straight up (even though we weren't taking a big cap-hit on him this year reportedly). The Eagles can reallllly use him too. I wish it was a straight up trade for Samuel though. Texans don't seem to do well with late round picks.

Self-enforced "next man up" mentality -- Wade Phillips is a masochist.

Not if they end up being multiple guys that don't contribute.

I don't really like it. I understand it, but it smacks of selling low. The idea that he wasn't going to cut it as a 3-4 ILB is company line HS. More like he wasn't fully himself for most of last year and Wade just didn't take a shine to him.

Doesn't change that he was still the major force of leadership on that side of the ball. His dynamic with Cushing was special.

But it is moneyball time. When you're threading a needle with a hard cap, you've got to shed guys you like if there's a low money reserve you feel can step in with only a slight step back in production.

Meh. Very sorry to see him go, especially since I expect him to be better than he was last year. But we've got to move on.

No, it's his Achilles, which is the worst injury you can possibly have as an athlete. The vast majority, even in this day of medical technology, don't return to their prior level of athleticism - or even that close.

DeMeco will be a serviceable linebacker because he can tackle well and has a high IQ. But it's unlikely he'll ever get the burst back that he had prior to October 2010. As such, he'll be somewhat of a liability against the pass. Part-time player going forward.

If you think Ryans is anywhere near his Pro Bowl years (2007, 2009), you don't know much about linebacking play.

Somebody posted on the Texans board that it's for a 4th and 6th. No sources though.

Anyway, this is A GREAT DEAL. I understand that many see Demeco as a leader on defense, but he is not that same player he once was. Also, he does not fit Wades 3-4. He's ideal for a 4-3 MLB, so it works out for us on this front as well. The biggest reason this happened was his contract. I believe he would have made somewhere around $6 million a year...money that we need to use to secure Duane Brown, our #1 priority right now.

You guys do realize Marshall Faulk at his PRIME was traded for a 2nd and 4th round pick right? Also, Brandon Marshall was just traded for a pair of 3rd round picks. There is a reason why FAs get released all the time without any compensation. We would probably have released Demeco if there wasn't any interest for him.

    OK the verdict is in

Texans get 4th round pick (4th pick in that round) from the eagles

    and

the teams swap 3rd round picks. Texans move from 89th overall to 77th

It's for a 4th and swapping picks in the 3rd (Texans move up to 77 from 90).

This was a good move for the Texans. He obviously was not going to take a pay cut on that big contract. So instead of cutting him, we actually got something back for him.

Texans get rid of a high salary; DeMeco gets to keep that nice contract; Philly gets a player they desperately need. He is going to put up some monster tackle numbers for the Eagles.
