And I can't see why somebody would lie about something like that. If the cell phone provider can confirm a call made at that time between Martin and his girlfriend the girl should be able to testify against Zimmerman. If she lies? Perjury and she'll go to jail.
Talking about in this thread BTW - Can you provide a link where it says he is hispanic. Zimmerman does not sound like a hispanic name Rocket River
I often find when I'm lost, in neighborhoods I've repeatedly driven around and canvassed, that it's best to stop my car, near a "dangerous" looking person I've been following, to get out and visually look at a street sign. Everything makes sense now. Zimmerman's story completely adds up!!!????
Getting lost in the debate over race though is how dangerous the stand your ground law is. Based upon that law a situation like this could occur. I am upset that my neighbor has been letting his dog poop on my yard and he hasn't been picking up the poop. I see my neighbor walking the dog on the sidewalk I get a gun and go out and confront him. I angrily tell him to clean up the poop. He responds back angrily, neither of us have laid a hand on each other. The dog starts growling so I shoot my neighbor and claim that I had a reasonable fear that he was going to sick his dog on me. Now where all this really gets messy is if my neighbor sees me confronting him armed he could have his dog rip my throat out and claim he had a reasonable fear that I was going to harm him. Since neither of us have a duty to retreat either of us could escalate the situation and claim self-defense. Especially if one is dead and can't testify the other way.
i think RocketRiver believes the media labeled him as Hispanic in an effort to absolve the white community http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/os-trayvon-martin-shooting-zimmerman-letter-20120315,0,1716605.story
Because it being a white guy killing a black guy in cold blood is a much better racial narrative. That's why it was reported that way so prominently at the beginning. Someone in this thread even said something like "Open and shut case. White person sees black person walking, gets suspicious and shoots him."
FWIW, him being hispanic, jewish, anglo or japanese doesn't preclude him from being racist against someone of another race. People of all colors and backgrounds have been known to show racist tendencies.
There's probably no way to prove she's lying, if in fact she is. On the other hand, if she tells this story in court at a civil hearing, perhaps the family gives her a cut of the civil suit money if they win. At any rate, she's hardly a neutral witness (which of course does not mean she's lying).
Yea, it's on the same level...Damion Laverne said it right before he shot and killed the person he was saying it to. FIFY
Idk if Zimmerman is white and quite frankly not a single **** is given. He obviously followed this young man because he was black and in Zimmerman's warped mind a black man walking at night means that he is up to no good.
I don't think anyone in here (except maybe on person) is arguing whether or not he is racist. I think the coon comment seems to solidify that. Whether he is white does seem to matter to some people though, particularly RR who seems very unhappy that now he is not being portrayed as white by the media.
Trayvon Martin Case Heads to Grand Jury By Stephanie Rabiner, Esq The shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin will be heading to a grand jury, according to Florida State Attorney Norm Wolfinger. The decision comes a day after the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice decided to open their own investigation into the case. The Trayvon Martin grand jury will convene April 10, and will likely spend days, if not weeks, poring over evidence, WFTV reports. The grand jury will then decide whether to indict George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who claims he shot and killed Martin, who was unarmed, in self-defense. In the wake of this announcement, some will undoubtedly ask why the State Attorney didn’t just arrest and charge Zimmerman without the help of police in Sanford, where Trayvon Martin was killed. But when you look at the facts in conjunction with criminal procedure, it seems to make more sense. To begin, the police department doesn’t believe it has probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for George Zimmerman, according to WESH-TV. When officers request a warrant from a judge, they must sign a sworn affidavit attesting to the evidence and the presence of probable cause. The department claims it would be lying to the court if it signed such an affidavit. When this occurs, prosecutors have a few options. They can continue the investigation themselves and then choose to file charges. At that point, the court will issue an arrest warrant. Or they can take the evidence to the grand jury, where citizens will decide whether to bring charges against the accused. The State Attorney likely chose this second option because of the race-based accusations involved. Grand juries are made up of an economically and racially diverse group of citizens. For this reason, it would be difficult to blame racism if the Trayvon Martin grand jury chooses not to indict George Zimmerman. The Trayvon Martin grand jury will also give prosecutors some idea of what they would face at trial if they were to bring official charges. Grand jury reactions and questions can indicate whether there really is a strong enough case.
