Substantive enough? It’s now official: the national debt has increased more during the three years of the Obama administration than during George W. Bush’s eight years. That makes it a good time to remember what Barack Obama had to say about federal debt during the 2008 campaign: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/1kuTG19Cu_Q" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> So if Bush was irresponsible and unpatriotic, what does that make Obama? Even if we put aside the fact that spending and debt exploded during the last two years of the Bush administration, after the Democrats took control of Congress.
So, do you have any idea what percentage of the US budget is discretionary? And how much of that is military spending?
bush spent more than all previous presidents combined in 3.5 years and i dont remember his supporters having a problem with it then. infact, people like me who actually criticized bush for his liberal spending were labeled "bush-haters" or "amer'ca haters". so basically, if you supported george w. bush and his out of control spending then you have no right to speak up now when obama just continues down the same path. "defecits dont matter" - dick cheney.
Finger point all you guys like.... The bottom line is that we are on a dangerous trajectory with the debt and deficit. There are rational and simple compromises that can be done to minimize deficits, but they aren't happening.
As far as the debt and the deficit is concerned, it is horrible. But how much spending do we want to cut as opposed to tax increases. Look at govt. spending and how much of the GDP it is. According to this it's about 42%. http://www.usgovernmentspending.com...2010&units=p&title=Spending as percent of GDP Even if it were half of that, think how much of the GDP will be cut if we cut the spending. The economy dropping by that much would be horrible for the nation's economy.
Yes. Two things would put us into a surplus in no time. 1. Put taxes back where they belong 2. Legalize Weed and tax it at 50%
This is absolutely incorrect. Bush never spent more than "all other Presidents combined. He spent too damn much to be sure, but it wasn't equal to all other Presidents combined. The debt when Bush took office was $5.7 trillion and the debt when he left was $10.6 trillion, so you're about $900 billion off. Keep in mind that $700 billion of that debt was TARP, which most of the Republicans on this board railed against when it was passed.
Has Obama said that the debt is not a serious problem? Has he said the debt added under his watch isn't unprecedented? In all the hypocrisy that is our government, I don't consider Obama to be the most egregious.
excuses Obama was supposed to be a "uniter" he did not show an ability to work with the party across the aisle he is not free from blame
When people are in office they create bills that often have stipulations or budgetary effects that occur a number of years AFTER the bill. Just because you now have a constant, immediate stream of information does mean that a bill signed today is immediately enacted tomorrow and its consequences easily interpretable by the media and blogger instantly. It takes years to actually enact and carry out many bills. Not saying that Obama has no accountability, but your your over-simplifying the process.
Takes two to Tango. Say u want to play with Kate Upton's fun bags, if she is not a Willing participant....it's not going to happen. Repubs have to willing to work for it, instead of being the party of NO!
Obama has been atrocious at working with the party across the aisle. He even made comments reflecting that he won the election so it's his way now....well that went over poorly. A good president can work both sides of the aisle. Obama has not been a uniter, but rather a polarizer. He's a very poor leader that cannot get much done, as a result. Time for America to take out the trash.
Bull. The GOP have been completely unwilling to compromise at all. It is true that Obama hasn't given the GOP everything and anything they asked for, but that isn't "compromise," that is bending over and taking it up the a$$. Everyone can clearly see which party is unwilling to compromise and it isn't the one to which Obama belongs.
the GOP/NO has had one agenda for four years: don't let barack obama accomplish anything that will reflect well on him. the fact that you fault him for the obstructionism he has experienced is preposterous. 70% of democrats voted for cheney's war. this generation of republicans are a bunch of fat f**king babies who can't get over losing one presidential election. they are really going to lose their minds when the losing streak hits two. as far as the money, i had a crazy idea. we should, like, spend the money we spend on "defense", otherwise known as pre-emptive and prolonged military excursions with no real objectives, at home. you know, pay some bills, get out of debt. i'm sure you would be right in line with that kind of spending, domestically, when it's right in front of your face and not pursued with "your-gonna-die-without-it" fear-mongering defense rhetoric.
