We used to have some Republicans to debate with. I can understand after Dubya nobody would want to fess up to it, but.. It was sort of nice to have a few of them around who didn't explain all of society by market fundamenalism, the gold standard, the fed, "statism" or view you know who as a demi-god.. Now they all claim to be "libertarians" or like Major they have converted at least temporarily to Obama supporters. Manny has explained how he has become a Democrat IIRC. Where are all the GOP'ers or conservatives, who don't claim all of a sudden to be "libertarians"? Proud GOP ers or traditional GOP'ers who support Romney or Santorum or even Newt present.
at least you admit the board is full of liberals I'm sure all the conservatives don't feel welcomed after the roaming gang of liberals insults them and calls them all a bunch of racists.
pfft. Not likely. At one point even Andy Moon tried to convince us he was something other than a liberal.
To glynch, anyone that's not an extreme liberal is a Republican. I've always been a left-leaning independent that identifies with the Dems right now thanks to the GOP going nuts.
I was tempted to ask myself. I'm still a registered Republican, but don't really identify with the party anymore. The obsessions with social issues, the need to always cut taxes, the refusal to cut defense spending, etc. Tax cuts are great, but only when they make sense and aren't stacked on top of 30 other tax breaks. I can't stand Newt/Santorum, and don't care for Romney.
At least you did claim one time to be a "country club" Republican. Your honestly was much appreciated. At least you do have a very rational reason to be for the GOP.
I consider myself a libertarian, I even donate money to the party when I can, but I'm not an extreme no government supporter. I am just a fiscal conservative who is disgusted with much of the Republican party and how many Republicans value the Bible over the constitution. I'm a volunteer on the Ted Cruz campaign, I volunteered for Medina when she ran for Governor. But I will more than likely vote for Obama this election, Romney and Santorum are jokes.
Major, I thought you were a Republican. I apologize and I appreciate you civility. I would never want to be accused of something like that. Hey, my accountant is a Republican. Feel guilty about that. He even listens to Rush Limbaugh, but now turns it off if I drop into his office. We have had some interesting conversations throughout the years. One or two of my brother in laws are ones, too. Cant do much about what your sisters or your wife's sisters do. Just joking guys.
It's a place for liberals by liberals. It's also a place that makes me hate the current version of the Rockets.
Many long time rational conservatives on the bbs have moved to the middle/left after their party left them out in the cold.
Don't say greedy, stupid, selfish, theocratic, plutocratic, jingoistic, anachronistic ***** and you won't get called on it.
I think I am one who was on that side of the political spectrum, but I hate the term conservative for myself since I am far from that. If the religious/fake moral side of the Republican party was excised from the party then I could deal with the Republicans. I am on the more Libertarian side, but they are too extreme for me because I do feel like responsible, nimble, and intelligent govt regulation is needed. The problem with the Republican party is that it is such a fractured party with so many odd elements that don't mix well. I mean my dad, who is a pretty hardcore Fox News viewer and Republican/anti-liberal, said he was done with the Republicans for the rest of his life if they nominate Santorum. I honestly don't care too much about politics anymore. It's pretty hard to when there are very few people who I can say that I identify with in politics. I just pay whatever my taxes are and try to figure out how to keep my steady stream of income flowing.
