Yeah, I listed the only ones left, except for Charlie Batch, Kyle Boller, David Carr, Kellen Clemens, Kerry Collins, Jake Delhomme, Dennis Dixon, AJ Feely, Jeff Garcia, Caleb Hanie, Jon Kitna, Byron Leftwich, JP Losman, Luke McCown, Curtis Painter, Chad Pennington, Alex Smith, and Billy Volek. Other than those dudes, you're totally right. But seriously, I had a hunch about Garrard, he was flying too low under the radar. McNabb was never going to happen, but I could still see Vince there.
sorry, you listed the 3 who had a realistic shot of competing for a starting job. here's some rep for you...don't want you being the only one giving yourself credit for that amazing call. a true soothsayer you are.
how realistic is it for a QB to win a starting job after having back surgery and missing an entire season? i never thought about Garrard until now. thought he was going to a back up at best.
Oh, and let's not forget the Tebow sweepstakes are going on, plus the draft is yet to come! (They supposedly have a boner for Tannehill) Congrats on picking a fight where none existed. This exchange was productive and totally not a waste of either of our times. Is this the part where I roll my eyes now? Matt Moore probably has just as good of a shot as Garrard to start opening day, considering 1) Garrard's rusty and 2) his health. But, if you're Miami you have to do something.
picking a fight? you quoted yourself and were obviously looking for some recognition for your great call. apologies for commenting on that rather than just shutting my mouth and repping you.
1. Money $$$: Denver had the best deal. 2. Front Office Management and Coaching staff: Overall, it probably ranked high with Denver and San Francisco. The only reason SF is high in the first place, Jim Harbaugh. Moreover, John Fox is very well-seasoned coach who probably will not mind very much about handing over the entire offense to Manning, while they can use alot of things that Fox might like on offense. It's hard to say how other coaches would feel about that. There might be more resistance in SF to run Manning's offense, especially with Harbaugh and Moss there. 3. Denver reached the playoffs at 8-8 in an otherwise mediocre division.Outside of the Chargers, none of those teams would've been as tough as Texans or Titans. Even with the harder schedule, I feel like it's not quite as important for Manning as it was for Tebow. Manning's teams have had nightmarish schedules for alot of his career. 3A. Denver reached the 2nd Round of the playoffs with Tim Tebow at QB. It says alot about that team and how they went so far with overall quarterback play being suspect and not as optimal as other teams. People often trash the defense, receivers, and offensive line for being porous. Though, I predict with Manning and few adjustments on the line, one of those receivers will come close to or go over 1,000 yards rather easily. Look at what Thomas and Decker did with Tebow, imagine how much more effective they'll be with a QB who can consistently throw over 30 passes a game rather easily, while he's also a much better decision maker, accurate passer, and a better down the field hurler. There's one difference between Tebow and Manning, Manning can elevate the performances of his skill players, regardless of their overall talent. He has a better grasp of getting them into the right spots on the field, while Tebow often hesitates and waits for a receiver who is completely open. More unsure about the type of defenses at hand. Denver does not need to make alot of changes on offense, maybe a little tweaking here and there, mostly on the line and depth in skill position. Their offensive line is not really that bad, when you look at the circumstances. If they get Saturday, it will help in younger guys development, even though Saturday has seen his better days. Actually, I think most of Denver's attention in the offseason will go towards defense, DT (run-stopper), middle linebacker, cornerback, and SS. 3B. In reality, the Broncos weren't as awful as their 1-4 start showed. Of the first five games, the lost to Green Bay was the only blow-out and double digit lost. The other 3 losses ... 5 points or less. It was the reverse with Tebow, as the Broncos won most of their close games with him under center. Yet, it seemed like the team had to play at higher level across the board to win. 4. Offensive Line: Advantage Titans and Broncos 1: 2011 Cardinals (54 QB sacks allowed: 23 on John Skelton, 30 on Kevin Kolb, and 1 on Bartel) 2: 2011 Dolphins (52 QB sacks allowed: 36 sacks on Matt Moore, 11 on Chad Henne, and 5 on JP Losman) 3: 2011 49ers (44 QB sacks allowed: 44 on Alex Smith) 4: 2011 Broncos (42 QB sacks allowed: 33 sacks on Tim Tebow, 9 sacks on Kyle Orton - Orton was on pace for being sacked about 28-29 times, which is not awful. For some reason, the offensive line sporadically gave up more sacks with Tebow.) 5: 2011 Titans (24 QB sacks allowed: 19 on Hasselbeck and 5 on Locker)
Simple fool, how dare you tangle with the great DonnyMost. First thing you should do is... SET YOUR ANUS TO "PREPARED".
You have to wonder how many TeeBow sacks were what we Texans fans call "David Carr Sacks" Plays were the QB took a sack when he could have easily gotten rid of the ball. i.e. Like David Carr running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage. TeeBow's design runs for a loss . . . count as sacks Rocket River
I read this entire thread hoping to find member Dadakota's opinion on manning to the broncos- did I overlook his posts, or videos? Thanks.
Elway fell into the perfect storm - getting peyton manning, the best qb in the game while being able to trade away Tebow, one of the worst qbs in the game. Win win situation for him.
This guy was being serious too. From Denver. Seeing a lot of similar sentiments from the folks I know out there.
Still won't win the West, anyone care to bring up the record for Peyton against the Chargers? Peyton can still throw but one hit to the blindside by Hali or Seymour.... Career over.
Yes, I'm sure that games against San Diego from 2007 and prior are going to factor heavily into Peyton's future success in the AFC West. But hey, just for the fun of it, let's look at his QBR in his games against SD. 59.8 92.5 90.4 49.4 97.7 70.2 95.2 Two clunkers, an average game, and four stellar performances. Averaging out to a relatively good 80 QBR. And no doubt that all those medical professionals would clear him to play football if they felt he was one hit away from breaking his neck or ending his career, right, Dr. Addidas?
lol @ horseface. 1) lie repeatedly to bronco fans about how much you love tebow and how you want him to be the future 2) lie repeatedly to national and local media about how tebow should be the starter next year and how you are looking forward to working with him during the offseason 3) completely not focus on other aspects of your team to concentrate on a past his prime 36 yr old with at least 3 recent neck surgeries 4) pay $95 million for said 36 yr old. hahaahahaha
Our defensive scheme's have always bothered him, has nothing to do with some coincidence. I don't have to be a doctor to tell to you that 2 neck surgeries will affect him once he starts taking hits. Look Peyton is Peyton, all I'm saying is the rest of the division has gotten a lot better too. Chargers & Chiefs have both improved drastically via free agency & the Raiders have been pretty competitive within the division for the past 2-3 years.
That stellar running game was godawful until the best running quarterback east of Charlotte (and best zone read quarterback ever) started taking snaps. Willis McGahee is a washed-up shell of his former self, Denver's line is below average, and they looked very good with Tebow in there. He can't throw well at all, but Tebow is the reason that rushing attack worked. In the modern NFL, you give that up for a great passer, but lets not pretend that Willis McGahee is going to look like it's 2004 again without 9 defensive players chasing the quarterback running the other way. The most fun you can have this August is laughing loudly at who ever picks McGahee in the 2nd round in your fantasy league.
I just don't see why it's a given he is traded. I really don't think it would be that big of a deal for one simple and obvious reason...it's peyton manning. I don't think anyone will be distracted by having one of the greatest QBs of all time start over tebow.
Yes, the Chargers defense in the mid and late 2000's was great. However, he torched you guys in 2 out of his last 3 starts against you. He usually isn't the reason the Colts lose those games. Actually, yes, you do. Chargers lost VJax and Tolbert, likely to lose Patrick Crayton, added Royal, Meachem and Le'Ron McClain. That's a net loss any way you slice it. Chiefs did marginally better adding Winston, Hillis, and Boss. But they still lack anything close to a decent quarterback. And I agree with moes that the Raiders set their franchise back a good 2-3 years by letting Jackson go and starting over. If Campbell doesn't get injured and the coaching staff stayed put, I'd agree with you, but unfortunately that didn't happen. The AFC West is trending down, not up.
There's no need to average out his QBR - his career QBR against the Chargers is 72.5, which is terrible. It's far and away his worst rating on a team-by-team basis. And at 7 games, it's not an insignificant sample size. Also, 80 is not a "relatively good" QBR, nor is 70 an "average game." With an 80QBR, he would have finished behind Kevin Kolb last year and just a point above Tavaris Jackson; it's 15 points lower than his career QBR of 94.9. A 70 puts him in Christian Poner/John Skelton territory. Like I said - it's terrible. He's absolutely had some issues with the Chargers. It may not manifest moving forward... but it's certainly been an issue previously, for whatever reason. I also think, BTW, that the Chiefs are a better team than Denver. I don't think by any measure think he has any sort of cakewalk and we still don't even know if he's healthy.
