They got lucky in the sense that they did it with Kyle Orton for a quarter of the season and a QB that can't throw a football for the remainder of the season. QB was really the only major weakness on that team, despite Tebow's heroics.
Brilliant move by Elway, the only way he could ever replace Tebow without having a riot from the Denver fans.... replace God's favorite son, with God.
bad move, Manning won't ever win another Super Bowl. Should have really considered the 49ers...maybe even Texans.
Does this mean Von Miller is giving up his salary? Haha Von Miller @MillerLite40 Mario and Manning = I will play this season for free, super bowls are priceless!!!
Wonder if this development will pull Manningham away from 49ers. They have an agreement already, but I don't think he's signed it.
He did consider the 49ers...he chose Denver anyway. But the Texans didn't seem to have a dog in the fight. I'm sure he would have listened to them.
AFC is weaker than the NFC, almost guaranteed playoff spot playing in the West, Denver is pretty loaded besides QB and has a great FO. 49ers did well for themselves and overachieved, but they are no lock to win a SB, even with Manning, given how crowded the NFC is.
His decision was more than just who had the best team. Manning probably felt more comfortable with management and the coaching staff in Denver than SFO. I never thought the Titans had much of a chance. The "lifetime" contract offered was a sign of desperation IMO.
To be fair, it's not like Gabert is any good. Who knows, if MJD and Tebow run the ball 90% of the time, that might work.
Absolutely, Gabbert blows donkey balls. MJD and Tebow running would be quite formidable. Sucks to be Laurent Robinson though, lulz.
What does this do to the team left at the alter, SF 49ers, I heard QB Alex Smith was actively trying to find a deal elsewhere (Miami)? If he does sign somewhere else, then most of the competent QBs have already signed, who's left, David Garrard or roll with Colin Kapernick?
So NFC West with an elite defense, elite special teams, great running game and solid targets (Vernon, Moss, Crabtree, Manningham) is not a guaranteed playoff spot? Unless Matt Flynn is the second coming, the 9ers have that division on lock. Besides, I doubt he would be able to get through Tom Brady and the Patriots.
Alex Smith did say that he would not mind being the 9ers plan B. He likes living in Cali and the 9ers offer of 3 years $24M with incentives is probably more than anybody is willing to offer. Miami wasn't willing to pay that much for Flynn who is a better prospect.
Yes, so? Then you have the Giants, Packers, and Saints to contend with. All very legit Superbowl threats. One of which Peyton's brother plays for. And that's not even mentioning the other talented teams that beat the crap out of their AFC counterparts, Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago, etc. > Cincinatti, NYJ, San Diego. We all know the NFC West is easy cheese, but it's not much easier than the AFC West, and certainly a harder road to the Superbowl. Add in the fact that Peyton made it known the NFC was not his first choice, and it's easy to see why he picked Denver.
