to say Kobe is overrated is lmao funny. 5 rings. 81 points in a game. and is going to finish in top 3 scoring all time if not beat Kareem. /thread

I see what you did here. You put the most overrated player in your post.

Yeah, I can't see the most overrated player ever being a champion.

I'd probably look to guys who are considered all time greats but have limited playoff success.

If you used that criteria Grant Hill would be considered overrated.

    I completely disagree.
Winning is much more likely to get you overrated.
Lebron James is underrated because he hasn't won.

Mcgrady also scored about 50ish or 60ish points in two and a half quarters. But is he the GOAT? No. A big knock against Kobe was that Mcgrady in his prime was... better. Kobe was second fiddle to a Shaq in his prime with no other dominant center relevant. Everybody knew that if Grant Hill did not get injured, him and Mcgrady would of dominated the NBA.

Pete Maravich and George Gervin leap to mind.

I think it's fair to say if you arguably aren't even the 2nd best player of your generation yet folks try to put you in the GOAT convo, then you're overrated.

I thought Amare was more overrated than Kobe.

They actually made it seem like he was a superstar. And that went on for years!

I'll have everyone and their mom disagree, but if the media didn't do what it did, and Jordan didn't play when he did, he wouldn't be the consensus best player ever. I fully believe if Jordan played in the late 60's into the 70's and Irving played when Jordan did, Dr J would be in discussion for best player ever, not the best, but top 3 or 4. If it was Wilt and his 7'1 of beast mode playing and dominating (he would, you can't convince be otherwise) the centers of the 90's, he'd be almost a lock for best ever. Hell, if Pettit had played in this generation or the last, he'd be seen as possibly a top 6 player.

Yes yes, I 100% understand the "players were different back then, better competition now" "conditioning is better now" ect ect. But wouldn't that mean that players like Pettit, Wilt, and Havlicek would have been that much better given the same advantages?

Kobe is a hall of famer... But those folks putting him in top 10 ever are why he is considered over rated.

thats too much into the what-if scenarios. What-if Jordan played in the late 60s and 70s, and What-if Wilt was playing in the present day, or the 90s? This is too theoretical. And even so if those scenarios happened, Jordan would not be as effective in the 60s or 70s because the NBA allowed handchecking, and Wilt would not be as effective because the NBA has better defense now, better rotations now, BIGGER GUYS now, and the stats are not as inflated. To be honest, Wilt might be like a Demarcus Cousins, not in talent, but because everybody of all his off court banging, lol. And if Wilt played in the 90s, he would not outplay the other centers, especially not Hakeem or Shaq.

Typo: "To be honest, Wilt might be like a Demarcus Cousins, not in talent, but because everybody of all his off court banging, lol."

Correction: "To be honest, Wilt might be like a Demarcus Cousins, probably better in talent obviously, but because of all his off court banging, lol."

only 2 rings as the leader and the 2nd one, it's arguable he was the best player on the court.

I think Lebron has a mental issues in big moments, but heck if he Eli Manninged the draft and ended up with Duncan for the first 8 years of his career (like Kobe did LA and Shaq), he'd probably have won more than 3 rings by now.

so brian scalabrine is better than lebron james? robert horry is better than kobe? pipper is better than kobe? bill russel is the G.O.A.T?

your argument is so flawed, and it pains me to see people that use your logic.

SMH, you're entitled to your opinion but fact is most ppl in pro basketball consider Kobe a top ten player of all time.

Appreciate the play of number 24 before h hangs it up, he's the last of a dying breed
