Wait, I'm only 20 seconds in so maybe he gets his point across. But to say Kobe is 0/1 because straight away he was supposed to be the next Jordan? How does Kobe get knocked because pundits and analysts said something?

Well, he outsuperstarred MerGady, that's for sure.

And I would have traded the whole roster for him in his early 20's. He's a douche, but no one would complain having him on their team. Unlike his old sidekick Fisherprice.

Yes kobe has done some amazing things. No, he isn't even in jordan's stratosphere, how is this even a debate?

I hate Kobe and I liked MJ, but after years of worshipping MJ... if anything he was the overrated one. I believe the Nike/NBA marketing push behind MJ is something that we've never seen before and probably will never see again. As a kid growing up I feel pretty much brainwashed into believing that MJ was the greatest NBA player and athlete ever, but when I took myself away and really watched them play I think Kobe is actually the better player. And I actually borderline still hate the guy.

To me Kobe copied MJ, but in a certain sense is a better version of him. That's what seems to happen in sports. Guys get more athletic and faster over time.

Quick fact. Michael jordan won all his six rings alongside a HOF and top 50 player in Pippen (Not to mention Dennis Rodman). Kobe's won 5 rings, 2 rings with without a HOF player. Who benefited most from playing with superstars more Kobe or MJ?

Kobe is definitely not overrated. He has done plenty of things in this league that no one else has. Jordan is still in a tier of his own, followed by Kobe and others. Lebron isn't close to either of them. /discussion

Kobe is one of the greatest SGs of all time.

That being said, he's probably the most overrated defender of all time. I don't think there is a single season where he's been the best defensive SG in the league, yet he's made the all-defensive first team nine times (more than Olajuwon, Mutombo, Pippen, Duncan, Ben Wallace, Bruce Bowen, or David Robinson).

Name the teams that had more talent than LA from 2008-2010? No, Kobe didn't have a HOF player on those teams. He just had arguably the best frontcourt in basketball when most frontcourts sucked. Gasol outplayed Howard in the Finals.

And odds are Gasol will be in the HOF eventually.

Since Kobe was Shaq's sidekick, Kobe obvioulsy benefitted more from playing with superstars. Kobe had the luxury of having a teammate better than he was.

And IMO, Pau Gasol will eventually get into the HOF, and considering both his NBA and international resume, I wouldn't be suprised if he got in as a first ballot.

Basketball has always been (and will always be) a big man's game. In the 90's, Jordan's Bulls won 6 championships despite playing in the same era as Olajuwon, Robinson, Ewing, Mourning, Shaq, and Mutombo. And for the first 3 championships, the Bulls' bigs consisted of Bill Cartwright and Horace Grant.

On the other hand, the last 2 championship Lakers teams have featured the best frontcourt in the league by far. And considering we're in an era of weak centers, that's quite a luxury.

Wouldn't you agree that between Jordan and Kobe, Jordan accomplished more with less help?

I think it's ironic that some of the Kobe nuthuggers bring LeBron up in this thread and clown him for joining Wade or not being the man on his team, yet call Kobe the ultimate winner because of his 5 titles, even though more than half of them were won when he was a clear sidekick (by his own admission). Where they do they at???

Of course they don't. In their minds having the best frontcourt in basketball in a weak era for bigs is less valuable than having a weaker frontcourt in arguably the best era of bigs in league history.

I don't know about the most overrated player of all time, but Kobe is definitely one of the most overrated players of all time. He's a top 12-15 player, but the fact that so many people want to place him as high as #1-2 means he's overrated.

That's the whole point. What else does "overrated" mean other than not being as good as everyone makes you out to be?

I wouldn't call Kobe's defense overrated. He does cheat, but man to man he locks up his guy pretty good. DWade probably had his crappiest game of the season because Kobe let him knew who was boss. Scored 12 straight points then put Battier on him rest of the way. I don't really see anyone going "off" on Kobe

Its overrated cause he doesnt show it for most of the game. He always guards the less active offensive player. Most teams dont have a good SF and SG. He would only guard the other teams best wing player in the final moments of games. Why should he be credited for playing great D for less than 1/4 of a game?
