Very interesting, gwayneco. Thanks for posting this. And the thread title is very clever, because - can you imagine the uproar among posters like Northside Storm and other leftists if the headline was actually what happened? But since it is a spiritual leader of Islam saying it about Christian churches...they just shrug and don't care.
just wanted to pop in to say that i really don't give 2 schlitz about what the grand mufti thinks. goooooood morning...
Yes, well there certainly was a tremendous amount of invective hurled against those who opposed the Ground Zero Mosque.
Yes, everyone will be taken in by gwayneco's title because he is a staunch defender of Muslims, much like yourself. Verrrrrry clever!
as well as there should have been. The mosque was never to be located at ground zero, and it has nothing to do with your link or anyone in it. In fact the people in your link are the ones who are violently opposed to what the mosque not at ground zero was all about.
Try to locate a post where I condemn Christianity without some implicit or explicit reference to the fact that all religions can be sillytown, especially Islam. Use your stalking skills, or stand on the sword of your trite stereotypes. I CONDEMN ISLAM blah blah blah, my internet contrition is so big, I would NEVER post about ANYTHING else because Islam is so big. If this topic were about human rights abuses in Israel or new Keynesian economics or securities fraud, I'd have to link to this thread---"meanwhile in X Arab Country". i thought it was implied. anyways, back on topic---
*posts this after 12 hours with the topic up, occurring between PEAK traffic time 12am-12 pm EST on a Friday night*
12 hours isn't such a short time with 40,000 members and dozens of rabid political crusaders on these boards. There's just no incentive for someone to win their side 'points' in this thread. That's the problem.
Yes, because the ideal political debate involves winning their side "points". you know, because if Judeo-Christian team gets 100 points, and Islam team gets none, that really makes a difference for the poor and suffering in this world. this is exactly why all organized religion turns me off.
I think it's a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison. If there were a far-left organization that held an inordinate amount of influence over the Democratic Party in the U.S., and one of its leaders called for the destruction of churches, I'd be among the first to denounce him. Instead, we're talking about a religious leader in backwards country with a well-known reputation for promoting militant Islam (Wahhabi). I suppose I just hold our citizens to a higher standard.
Kyrodis, fair enough - I guess I have a more global outlook. Whether something is right or wrong is not determined by borders from my point of view.
Blame it on the poster as much as you want, but there is a definite double standard in how leftists are rather happy to tolerate anti-Christian stuff (or say it themselves) but cry bloody murder (or "Islamophobe") when someone criticizes elements of Islam.
