Damn, if only the Rockets hard traded their entire team for Stoudamire(widely accepted as a star here), Melo(superstar), and signed a Tyson Chandler, I bet we'd be thinking about getting those NBA finals tickets.

So you rather have another 14th pick?

They clearly got better with Camby at a position of real need , a guy who can clog the paint , block shots and rebound. Those thing shave been a weakness all season particularly so when Dalembert goes to the bench.

Hill was gone at the end of the season , they get a first round pick for a guywhowould have walked for nothing .... cant complain about that even with the protection on the pick.

Flynn & Thabeet were horrible .... While Fisher isnt a player I care for , he's better than Flyn. My only issue with Fisher is he has a player option for next season .... Tho I expect a buyout of at least that option year if not before.

Hill does help the Lakers as they needed a big to fill in behind Bynum and Gasol ....

We all know Les wants to make the playoffs and sell those tickets .... these moves likely make that happen. They may not be championship material but I think they could win a series or two and possibly end up in the Conference finals if the matchups fell in their favor , mainly avoiding the Thunder , Lakers & T-Pups , all teams with size up front .... I think they match up well with any other team in the West.

They could easily move into the 4 seed with these moves .... with things being so tightly bunched between 4-8. This is all best case ....

Worst case , they end up a 6-8 seed and are a tough out for OKC or LA in the opening round. (I think they can beat the Spurs)

With the constraints that Les has put on Morey by demanding the team remain competetive , I think Morey did a decent job of upgrading the roster .... Even if there were no groundbreaking deals.

Yep, plus the addition of the Knicks pick which could very likely be below our own pick should we have one. Since this draft is so deep it's easy for guys like Lamb to fall to 14 because of team needs and other teams passing on it...in a deep draft top 5 prospects can easily slip past 10 but we won't have a chance to get them.

I hope this trade makes the team MUCH better...but if it makes it marginally better (8th or 7th seed...one and done playoffs) then all that was accomplished was saving up cap space for a pretty average FA class.

This is a draft with very good players, but with little franchise players.

It's a role player deep draft. Morey said the same before.

The Knicks pick might get us something, but our pick wouldn't be worth near as much.

I rather we raise the value of all of our players in the rotation by getting in the playoffs than acquire another 14th pick player who won't be an all-star.

Consider that we are giving the young players a chance to advance with some veteran support.

seriously, this isn't a lateral move either, we fill one of our pressing needs for more size / backup center for pretty much players that haven't seen much off the bench, low risk / solid reward

Superstars win the championships. If you can't trade for a superstar, tank for one. Rox are stuck in mediocre and can't see the light at the end of tunnel.

It feels good that I was, vocally, never onboard with overpaying for Melo or Stoudemire for the past three years :p

Without reading the thread to get other view points, my initial reaction is the same as my previous reaction......this team is good, but still sucks in the realm of a contender. So we dumped some crap and got a higher pick. We don't draft well, PERIOD, so it will have to be traded. It's going to be a low 1st rounder, which won't carry much weight. At least we dumped some worthless guys and can dump some other worthless guys later. Win? Meh...I guess, but overall....blah. Not like we have anything to work with.

People complain because they feel like the orginization is stuck in neutral ... When you look at the results of the past several seasons , it really appears that way.

Everyone seems to want Morey to wave his magic wand and poof we have a superstar. There just arent that many "Impact Players" in the league and to get them is difficult at best .... "Superstars" dont change teams often. Maybe 1-2 a year. They arent drafted often either , again maybe 1-2 a year , sometimes none.

I agree with you on the above moves ... all good ones.

Im not overly thrilled with the moves made today but getting Camby is an upgrade over Hill. It solidifies one of if not the weakest area of the team, that being interior defense and rebounding.

I think the deal involving the Dallas pick was a a very good one even if it is heavily protected. That heavy protection limits what Dallas can offer in future trades. Until they fulfill the obligations surrounding that pick , they cant offer future picks as compensation. That was orchestrated by the Lakers tho ....

All in all I think they made "solid" moves at the deadline , nothing spectacular but solid. The addition of Camby will make the Rockets a tough out for just about any team in the West. Not a real contender .... but a step in the right direction.

Since when don't we draft well? Morey hasn't drafted a bust in the first round yet (jury's still out on Morris and Motiejunas of course) and he's found a ridiculous number of rotation players with low value, late first round or second round picks.

I would say based on our success rate at finding rotation players in general and especially with low-value picks, we are one of the better drafting teams in the league.

With Camby on board, there was no point on keeping Hill.
The late first round pick alone has more value to the Rockets than Hill.

Sorry, but considering the players we could have drafted or did draft and promptly traded away (therefore we didn't think much of them), we do not draft well. Going back 10 years, the best players we drafted and kept for a significant period of time is Carl Landry or Aaron Brooks. I just don't have much confidence in our drafting abilities to pull and actually KEEP a gem (ie. Rudy Gay or even Nicolas Batum who is a big step down from RG).

Rudy Gay was traded by Carroll Dawson who retired in May 2007 (the following year). Cant blame that on the current regime.

Batum was flipped for Darrell Arthur who was traded for Dante Green who was swapped for .... Meta Ron Ron. At that point in time , Artest was better than any of those mentioned.

They were in Win Now Mode and at the time , I think it was a solid move. Looking back at the fact that they werent able to finish the deal - It was still a gamble worth taking.

How about an option for we get off the treadmill of mediocrity. Trade mediocrity for mediocrity flip and repeat.

Dawson might have been there but battier reeks of a morey deal, the whole no stat all start thing. Morey's advanced stats said battier was the reason why Memphis made the playoffs.

I agree with the ops. When the season started we had no post players, and Morey was able to get Sammy D. and now Camby. Our team is not bad at all. We have played neck and neck with the 2 top seeds in each game.(spurs, okc) We got a great rebounder/defender for nothing(thabeet, flynn). We got a pick and backup pg for someone who was not going to get minutes(hill). All this talk about lateral moves, is BS, because this was an upgrade not a lateral move, upgrade meaning we got better. Im willing to bet 100$ that the Rox roll past the Clips today and a big reason why is Camby. I like the make up of the team, I really really do. We got scorers,(hopefully martin is back soon and back to his old form) and now we have improved our rebounding, defense and veteran leadership.

I think Daryl Morey would admit to being wrong on Gay and Batum. However, the entire general argument of "We could have had Player X because he was drafted somewhere after where the Rockets selected" is a weak and unfair argument to make.

You can't hold Morey's draft record up against any player he could have possibly selected and criticize him for not drafting the guy who turned out to be the absolute best one. So much goes into a player's success, so there is no guarantee a given player would succeed with the Rockets. Hell, just look at Jeremy Lin for proof of that!

Morey's draft record is no worse than a B+. It's probably an A-. And few (if any) GMs would get an A or A+ on such a scale.
