My guess is he'll get cut the moment the Texans have come to an agreement with a FA receiver. Or if they need extra capspace for rookie signings. Before then, the Texans still need bodies for any offseason camp and stuff.
I wouldn't say it's a steal. It's a top tier price for a top tier center. I haven't looked up the numbers but I'm pretty sure he's in the top 3 paid centers or close to it. As for the jacoby being cut people. That guy is on my poo list but it seems like he isn't going to be cut so y'all might want to go ahead and prerpare yourselves for seeing him around next year in some form or fashion
Here is Spotrac's numbers of average salaries... http://www.spotrac.com/top-salaries/nfl/average/center/ Myers's play was on par for being arguably the best center in football last season. The gap between Kalil and Mangold's numbers to Myers is pretty big. I would say its a really good contract and a steal if he was really looking for Mangold money.
It's hard to just compare raw salaries, because many good players are on rookie salary scale. One should compare his salary to recent interior linemen who became FAs. If you look at them, I don't think it's a stretch to say that he's getting paid more as a "pretty good FA" rather than "star FA." In that sense, it's a good deal for the Texans. Especially if plays at a pro-bowl level for the new few years.
I actually made the mistake of looking at The Real Shady's math of 5 million per year when comparing Myers's contract to Mangold and Kalil's. At 6.25, while still good, yea I agree it isn't a steal.
Yea, 'fair' and 'thank god he resigned' come to mind when reading that figure. It's a damn good sum for a system center.
He'll make about the same as Eric Winston was slated to make this year. The Winston cut looks like a pure trade for Myers. Brown Smith Myers Caldwell Butler It's not too bad. Let's get some O-Line depth in rounds 2 and 3.
Watch for S. Smith to give Caldwell a real battle in camp for a start guard position. I know for a fact the coaches are really high on Smith and are, I hate to use the word disappointed, but expected more of Caldwell. The Texans brass wanted Caldwell to take over for Brisel last season but Caldwell couldn't beat him out.
with the needs we have, i feel we have to go BPA out of OL, WR, OLB, DB for rounds 1 and 2 and then try to fill out the other spots later.
Don't forget about Thomas Austin. Texans picked him up last year from the Pats and he spent the whole year on the active roster. The Bengals, Rams, and Colts also put in claims for Austin but Texans got him because record from 2010 was the worse.
