Wait, what? Nobody knew he worked out for the 49ers/Harbaugh til just now? I thought his every move was being tracked. How did he manage to pull that off without someone sticking a camera or microphone up his butt?
He will have Crabtree who I think is due to breakout and Davis. Plus he has frank gore. If he goes there they are the SB favorites.
Don't forget about Randy Moss. That would indeed be a scary team. Really hoping Peyton goes to San Fran though...keep him out of the AFC and let him and Rodgers duke it out.
I wouldn't crown them yet. NFC is loaded. To me right now, there are 3 outright contenders (and it's still early, still got a lot of re-signing left for teams and FA's as well as the draft). Packers, Bears, and Saints. If 49ers get Manning, i'd add them to that list.
The Superbowl champions aren't contenders? Once the 49ers add either Smith or Manning (one is inevitable), then they're on the list automatically as well. NFC is totes ridic. Texans must strike while the AFC is weak!
OK, ESPN is saying the Cardinals have been told to move on. Makes sense, given Kolb's bonus is due tomorrow. Final 3... 49ers, Titans, Broncos?
Yeah, those look like the final three. . . . . . . Correction: Manning wants his old contract Report: Peyton parameters fall in the range of 5 years, 60 million; 30 guaranteed
My thoughts exactly. Completely out of nowhere man. Wow. If the 49ers get Manning and he can finish the season in one piece at even 70%, they'll be my favorite. They don't even allow ****ing rushing touchdowns for God sake. I don't think they need to go crazy at receiver either, they can find and plug guys in. Hell Harrison can probably start at WR2 and I'd still like their chances. Oh and whether Gore can play or not, Hunter is a fine backup.
mmph. well, there's my prediction coming true. 1 of the 2 obvious teams that should have been in the running finally are. that leaves only 1 idiot front office who should be pursuing him. so damn frustrating.
His contract starting point is 5 years and 60 million dollars, probably 20-25 million guaranteed. When we're unable to sign our own guys, let alone keep from having to cut them, just to get under the cap, tell me where the hell we're supposed to get that money from. Unlike Ric, I agree with you that, in a vaccuum, Peyton Manning makes the Texans better than Matt Schaub. But there's too many other factors at play. He was never coming here, and we're not stupid because of that.
salary was certainly not the reason that mcnair and his bravado spat out the other day. i don't want to engage in any more debate on this. i understand that i'm beating a horse that died ages ago, and i don't want to attract that sewer rat from the other thread into this, but: let's pretend salary isn't/hypothetically wasn't an issue. do you honestly think they would be pursuing/would have pursued him then? just curious to hear your opinion, not arguing.
1) You don't know that 2) If the Texans had cap room, I'm sure they would have done at least some due diligence with Manning. Especially with all the Titans chatter. And if they didn't, it would tell me that they are having nothing but positive signs from Schaub's recovery. And if Matt is doing fine, it would be foolish to go out and buy a high dollar QB when you've got guys valuable contributors like Foster, Meyers, Dreessen, Briesel, Williams, etc. ready to walk. So yeah, the only way I fault the Texans on this is if they had the cap room and passed, while Matt never recovered from his injury. But to jump the gun and get pissy with them before we see Matt's future, especially since they are without the ways and means to even sign Manning, is stupid. Part of what Bob said on the radio is that "if it were up to Peyton only" he would probably want to come here, meaning that there are other factors at play. Two of them being Matt and the salary cap. This isn't Madden 2012, you can't just stick parts in, remove others, and turn off the salary cap mode.
he said we are fine with the qb we have, we have beaten peyton before, and we will beat him again. he never made mention of salary cap. you are providing your own interpretation of "if it were up to peyton only". i interpret it as "it isn't only up to peyton, it's up to us as well, and we have a qb we would rather go to battle with". you are quoting the manning figures that you are hearing from today, right? how do you know those are the figures that he would have required if he signed with the team that he allegedly desired to play with over all others? either i'm giving the front office too little credit, or you are giving them too much. my inclination is that they wouldn't have hired manning for minimum wage, and never gave him serious consideration. agree to disagree, as they say.
You're criticizing them for thought crimes on situations which, by all indications, were never, ever, ever going to happen. That is ridiculous. Look, I get that you don't like Matt, but you need to give credit where credit is due. What has the FO done to make you distrust them so much?
where is career done option. dude coming off major surgery and turning 36. if he plays food for him, i know this is the wrong thread but i wouldn't chance it. i don't know much about each team's situation but if i were a young team i would take him. just to let him train a pupil. i wouldn't turn a franchise over to him if its on the cusp even with no qb.
you are completely wrong, as i've mentioned countless times in other threads. i am a fan of schaub, and there is only a short list of qb's that i would readily replace him with. as you agree, manning is one of them. never in any of these threads have i said anything negative about schaub, other than it seems he is prone to injury, and that peyton manning is considerably better. let's end it here. i realize that you and i can have a civil debate, unlike the other lunatic, but i don't want the mods to have to shut this one down to on account of me in any way, since this debate isn't completely relevant to the thread.
nothing can replace talent. rodgers played under farve but he starts out with talent (even though we really know farve was a dick to rodgers)
