Got a 2nd interview today for a mechanical engineering intern position today and I have a couple of quick questions:

    1) If the wage question is brought up, how should I respond? I don't think this question is usually asked for internships though.

    2) If say I do get a verbal job offer, how should I respond? Should I just say thank you so much etc etc or should I try to restrain myself and ask politely for a written offer?

    Any last minute tips?

    Thanks guys

Doubt your wage is negotiable. If they do bring it up, maybe see if they can pay your tuition. Otherwise, say you'll consider a competitive offer, typical for that position.

If you want it, they give you a verbal, just take it if you want it.

I'm a college graduate. But yeah, I also doubt the wage thing is gonna come up.

say yes. plus if this is a big firm they will usually send you a contract stating the conditions and what not before you get to begin. but keep hunting in the mean time.

Being a new position, wage will be pretty fixed. If they tell you what the salary is and if your ok with that just keep it general and say "that's in my range". Typically a final number will come to you in the formal offer. I wouldn't recommend it since you're a newbie but that would be the time to counter.

If you get a verbal offer tell them that's great and you are very excited about the opportunity and look forward to receiving all the necessary paperwork.

You are pretty much chopped liver and don't have a lot of leverage being fresh meat....unless of course you have stellar credentials, e.g top tier school, grades and recommendations from people highly influential people

Do your research too. With a little effort it's easy to see what their range is and what they will offer

Got the offer almost immediately and couldn't pass up the opportunity .

Thanks for all the help and tips guys.

Oh, and after I'll a while after I have performed really well, maybe I'll start thinking about demanding an opt out to leverage a max contract :)

Take it, no reason to assume your other interviewers' timelines would intersect with a one-business-day window; they might not have even finished looking at other candidates.

Now you have them by the balls. Call them back immediately and tell them to go F themselves unless they are giving you a management position.

As long as you have a no-trade clause in your contract.

I have a drug screen scheduled next week.

I think I'll just call in and say that I have sore left nut.....and therefore can't properly pee. I won't show up until 2 weeks later and then demand a trade
