FWIW - If you had plans on picking one up at the various retail outlets tomorrow morning, I'd hold off unless you are after the 16GB Wifi - black model. I've been calling around to check availability, and every Radio Shack, WalMart, Target and Best Buy I've called claims that they will only be getting a couple of iPads (if any at all). Only expecting the 16GB model w/wifi.
Battery is 70 percent larger. Is the battery life on the wifi model and the 4g model the same? How did they achieve that when the 4g radios suck so much juice
Just a heads up - some Walmarts will start selling at midnight. EDIT: Some dude on those gaf forums took a picture comparing text on the new screen with paper. pretty nice Spoiler
Got myself a 32gb wifi version at the apple store at the domain in Austin this morning. I have a black 16gb wifi version new in box with receipt for sale if anyone is interested.
It's possible to do that with a 4s iPhone (don't ask me how, but I know someone who does it with their PC laptop... doesn't have to be a Mac), but it's a great feature to have up front on the new iPad. Go on vacation and tether a laptop to broadband, if you wish. So, if you have a laptop, Apple or PC, I assume that you can tether at 4G speeds with Verizon, ATT later, supposedly. That's pretty freakin' awesome! I ordered a Verizon version, anyway, simply to get ATT (who we despise) out of our lives. Our contracts expired long ago for our 3GS phones, and we're waiting on the iPhone 5. Our phones are barely hanging in there. With broadband, you can almost see the battery icon move as you use it. :-O- Waiting right now for delivery. Hope it's before this afternoon, rather than late, but at least someone will be at Blade Runner Central all day to sign for the damn thing, even if it isn't me. Glad to hear that some are picking them up retail today. I think they'll quickly sell out (duh!). SunsRocketsfan, VooDooPope, anymore feedback? You have an obligation to give up minute by minute reports! ;-)-
Yeah until you start opening up some Apps and games and they look like crap because of the higher resolution. 16GB and 32GB won't be enough for this new iPad since everyone will want to have everything higher to take advantage of the resolution.
Oh f!ck here we go again. I'm speaking the truth idiot. Look how crappy Youtube already look on the iPad 2. This is doubling the resolution so obviously it will probably double the storage space if you want HD contents to take advantage of the new resolution.
Interesting, I knew it was possible to use tethering on the 4S but it's free? especially if that was on AT&T's network lol. Luckily for me, if and when I purchase one of these bad boy's I'll have the rooted Galaxy Nexus to use tethering with the iPad. I'll probably still get a VZW version anyways since tethering drains the hell out of a phone battery Hope you enjoy your iPad Also, once you guys start playing with them a bit more. Let me know how 3g-4g handoffs are.(vzw version) I'm interested in that radio chip it uses.
He's not wrong. David Pogue, NY Times tech columnist, says basically the same thing. And the increased storage requirements for higher resolution text/pictures, etc, will not only affect the new iPad but also the old one and possibly even iPhones. Since apps are made to work across platforms it will eat up storage on devices that don't even take advantage of it. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/15/t...ch-the-same-only-better.html?pagewanted=1&hpw
Obviously some people never own an iPad. I usually have to convert most contents to fit the resolution of the iPad 1 to save space. But now you have a 1080p version of the iPad you're going to run out of space really quick with movies that are around 4GB in size and above. Storage problems is going to be a big issue with this version if you like lots of contents on your tablet. I like this resolution because most contents out there are now HD and I don't have to convert them. 32GB will now be the 16GB for this iPad 3.
Heads up for Bay Area people: The Emeryville Best Buy received 300 units and the line at the register is barely forming. The store manager is still surprised the stock has not run out.
