Camby Upgrades The Rockets Front Court Rockets GM Daryl Morey joined Vandermeer and Lopez and they discussed the two trades they made for Marcus Camby and Derek Fisher. <span style='text-align:left;display:block;'><p><object type='application/x-shockwave-flash' data='http://s2.wp.com/wp-content/plugins/audio-player/player.swf?m=1236370442g' width='290' height='24' id='audioplayer1'><param name='movie' value='http://s2.wp.com/wp-content/plugins/audio-player/player.swf?m=1236370442g' /><param name='FlashVars' value='&bg=0xf8f8f8&leftbg=0xeeeeee&lefticon=0x666666&rightbg=0xcccccc&rightbghover=0x999999&righticon=0x772124&righticonhover=0xffffff&text=0x666666&slider=0x666666&track=0xFFFFFF&border=0x666666&loader=0x772124&soundFile=http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/nyc.podcast.play.it/media/d0/d0/d1/d0/d3/d4/dC/1034C_3.MP3' /><param name='quality' value='high' /><param name='menu' value='false' /><param name='bgcolor' value='#FFFFFF' /><param name='wmode' value='opaque' /></object></p></span> http://houston.cbslocal.com/2012/03/16/camby-upgrades-the-rockets-front-court http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/nyc.podcast.play.it/media/d0/d0/d1/d0/d3/d4/dC/1034C_3.MP3
Morey on Camby: "People don't realize how effective he still is. He's still the number one defensive rebounding big in the league. Was the year before that and was the year before that." On Fisher, hinting a buy-out might be a real possibility: "We get a draft pick there, which is important. With Derek Fisher, at this point all I can (???) is that we traded for him. Beyond that things are still to be determined."
-It's always busy. So many things talked about. In the last 2 days, many options off the board because others teams decide to move on or things dont make sense for us. A narrow list on the last day, Thursday. -Hard to anticipate about how much movement on deadline day. Depends on how many teams are going for it or setting up their future. We like what we were able to do. Help our playoff run and the future in picking up a draft pick. -Camby a big addition. Needed more depth at the big. People look at him being in the league a long time but dont realize how effective he is. (Naming all his accolades) He is still very strong. Think he'll come right in and help and give us vet leadership. -Between Sam and Camby and Scola and Patterson, we feel like the C position is something we'll get a lot of quality minutes at. -We got the draft pick from LA, which is important. With Fisher, all I can report is that we traded for him. Beyond that, things are still to be determined. -It's Dallas' draft pick. We get it if in the 20-30 range. If not, it rolls over into the future. -We were able to not really hurt anything with the rotation. Hill was giving us quality minutes but Camby will be a real upgrade, at least this year. -Kyle, they took a couple days to figure out what was going on. They tell me he can't play while on the course of antibiotics. We're awaiting for him to finish antibiotics and have him get tested again, make sure he is cleared out, and get him back on the floor as soon as we can. -Morale has been good. This does a little bit, we did have guys at the end of the bench who were in uncertain situations. Now the end of the bench and adding Camby, the team is focused on the game at hand and fewer distractions. Thats gonna help with Camby's leadership and getting the whole roster focused on the game at hand.
Regarding Fisher,"TBD" lol ok I think we got what that means. Even with the addition of Camby he actually said he likes the center position now because PATTERSON AND SCOLA can shift over there as well. NOOOOOO!!! Why even say this!! Never want to see either one of those guys playing the 5 which means they should never play together either!! You got TWO shotblockers now...don't back down and go small ever!
Nope. My honest guess is he doesn't want to come and Morey doesn't mind it. Thats why I think the presser was cancelled yesterday and I expect Fisher to be bought out by the end of the day, just in time to sign with another team (not Lakers) for the playoffs.
It seems like Fisher may have Morey over a barrel in terms of buyout discussions. Morey's summer free-agent plans are sunk if Fisher exercises his player option. Fisher could ask for this year's salary, plus the $3.6M that he would receive next season. Would Les be willing to pony up?
This years salary? You mean 1/3 of this seasons salary because hes been greeting paid by the Lakers right?
I think Scola or Pat would only play the 5 in a small ball line-up up, foul or injury issues with Camby or Dally so I would not stress about it.
He has no leverage, but right now Dragic numbers as a starter are much better than Lowry's are, even though it is only 6 games, they are staggeringly good.
Fisher has no leverage. Either he accepts a decent buyout amount with us, and he gets to sign with a contender (not the Lakers), or he has to remain on our roster. I believe the deadline for a player to be on a playoff roster is next friday, the 23rd. He has to be bought out before then to sign with someone else and be playoff eligible for that team.
Is there a restriction preventing him from rejoining the Lakers? Or are you just saying they wouldn't want to team up again?
