I was actually referring to the lakers holding out to prey on one of those teams. If the rockets deal was on the table I have a feeling the lakers put that on the back burner while exploring other options. I mean they do have that luxury.
I think many of the posters here don't have a firm grasp of the Rocket's roster. Here is my take on today's current roster. Just contrast it to the roster when Yao went down for good and Brooks was hurt. Center: Dally/Camby - Solid, big and anchors on defense. Matches up as reasonably well as can be expected against other huge front lines in the West. Grade B+ PF: Scola/PPat Can score and rebound. Defensively Scola is an issue. Grade B. If Scola continues his recent level of play could be a B+. SF: Parsons/Bud Parsons has solved many of the inherent problems at this position. For the money the best SF combo in the league easily. Grade B and probably improving. SG: Lee/Martin Nuff said right there. Grade B-. If Martin decides he actually wants to play it could improve to a B+. PG: Lowry/Dragic Probably the best point guard duo in the league. Grade A+, assuming Lowry comes back of course. Stashed assets: Montiejunas/Llull Man oh man that film of DMo is finger licking good. Grade A- or A. Tough to pin down though. Llull looks like he will be a serviceable PG in the league. Maybe could start. But again it is hard to tell. 2012 draft: Grade B. If we miss the playoffs it will become an A-. If NY misses the playoffs also it becomes A+. Biggest roster negative: Dragic is not signed through 2014. Play off forecast: Best case 6th. Worst case 9th. Could possibly win in the first round. Just my own humble opinion.
you know i honestly didn't see it this way, but you're absolutely right. we did a good job this trade deadline, did we get D12? no, did anyone get D12? no. besides the monta ellis/bogut trade, this was a rather quiet deadline.
Ahh yes, you are in the middle of a marathon when you suddenly realized "hey, I think I'm in the middle of the pack, maybe I should just quit in the middle instead of finish the race". Cause you know, quitting in the middle will somehow get us off the mediocre treadmill.
If that's all it takes to satisfy you then awesome...I think the Rockets might meet that goal and keep your dreams alive. I want a championship and we need to rebuild to be one. We can't get ther by picking up has-beens and mid and late 1st rounders.
No I want to run with purpose - not run in place going no where. At some point you need to realize I'm not moving anywhere. 2010's finish was just like 11's and 12's and... We'll see who gets to the finish line first (or at least closer). Portland or Houston. Ah yes we might have a mighty hard fought 7 game battle with OKC this year but lets check back in 5-10 years and see who has the more promising team.
The only thing i blame Morey for is the playing the waiting game every year and missing out. Other than that, he has done a great job. The draft is going to be where Morey truly makes his mark on this team. Not some overrated(except Dwight)superstar.
You're putting your hopes and dreams on us getting a franchise player with whatever pick number we get. The odds of getting a bust or just a nice player are higher than getting this so called draft pick to turn the team around. Basically we gut this team which is already young and has some potential, for the slim chance to get a Derrick Rose/Durant/LBJ in the draft, and surround him with young potential. If we don't get that player in the next couple of drafts, how long are we supposed to wait to start the rebuilding process? That sounds like a terrible plan, one Michael Jordan would be proud of.
Ok....say we do tank and get a good pick and HE'S NOT A BUST?? There's obviously uncertainty on both sides of our disagreement because you never know how the player will pan out but you made my point for me. You can't be afraid to be active and at least try to start a rebuilding mode with a potential franchise player! Set us back another year from what??? Being an average and mediocre team year in and year out?? It would be awesome if this franchise could continue to win AND rebuild but I don't see that happening. Ultimately you end up in the same boat as the Astros. lol,
SF: C- You are saying we are good to at SF w/ Parsons and Budinger who have to deal with the Lebrons and Durants of the world? no way jose.
If it took you until Yao officially retiring to see where this franchise was headed then you must have missed a lot of the team's games the past 3 years.
What did Morey miss out on? Dwight? so did 29 other teams and it had nothing to do with the package morey was putting on the table. Past that, you can't just say, "morey missed out" on a deal that was not even necessarily there.
Well the Lebrons and Durants of the world only play for the Heats and the Thunders of the world. Not every team has a superstar at SF
You obviously completely missed the entire point. That was a wasted 10 minutes of work trying to lay out where our roster is today. So to put it simply. WE ARE BETTER today than yesterday. We were better yesterday than at last draft. And we were better at last years draft than when Yao's career ended. And what is your problem with that??? Oh wait I know the answer. We should just clone LBJ. There problem solved.
How can you possibly think that this trade doesn't put us in a better long term spot? We have two 2012 first round picks now which can possibly be traded for a higher pick if Morey finds a player he wants. If not, we have two picks as opposed to one( potentially 3). By taking Camby and Fisher, we have more money dropping off the books than we did before. So more free agent money. Another benefit. Do you really think current day Marcus Camby is going to win us more games than we would have won with Hill? I say it's a wash. Fisher won't be a difference maker either and will be gone or buried when Lowry returns. So I don't see them making a difference in wins and losses. So potential same draft position ( if we don't finish above 14 then NJ gets our pick) but an extra first rounder in a very deep draft and more cap room. I would say that helps our long term future
Uhmmm ... did you watch the OKC game? Guess not. And Durant and LBJ get A+ grades. Parsons/Bud get a B.
No, if you want to rebuild, fine. Talk about that in the off-season. Teams that have a winning record and are currently in the playoff races do not blow their team up in the middle of the season, that makes absolutely no sense. You don't choose a direction in the middle of the season, you choose it during the off season. We made our decision already that we want to be a playoff team this season, so our mid-season trade moves should reflect that.
