How about you try waiting more than 1 year after Yao Ming retires?

Ok, say we do tank, get a good pick and he's a bust? That just set us back another year. The next season you get a good pick, nice player but still not a superstar franchise player. Set us back another year. Next thing you know, we're the Charlotte Bobcats.

I think too often people get frustrated because trades that aren't there, don't go down.

Then, in turn, people begin getting frustrated with management, in this case Morey, because he can't make a deal appear out of thin air.

Guess what....Morey made moves, regardless of how minor, today when other teams didn't.

You don't think the Bobcats, Suns, Pistons, Kings, Hornets, Jazz, or Timberwolves would have liked to add a star player today? Of course, but that doesn't mean the deal is there; moreover, they sat idley and made no improvement at all...regardless of how marginal.

See, this kind of selective memory is something that hurts the argument against Daryl Morey's tenure; people love to bring up the 2008 draft when talking about how the Rockets can't scout, while also screaming their heads off on how he was ignorant to the risks of building around injury-prone superstars.

I saw the 2009 Rocket team as unquestionably the best roster 1-10 in a decade. Yao was ostensibly healthy after playing through a pain-free Olympics, Tracy McGrady had corrective shoulder surgery during the offseason, and ScoLandry finally had solved the Rockets woes at the PF spot. But I can only assume that internally, the team knew the likelihood of a future injury, and knew that while McGrady and Yao were still in their 20s, the championship window was closing.

With that in mind, who exactly do you go after in the draft, if you need players who can contribute immediately in their first two years? Do you take the anchor of the National Championship Finalist team? Or the 19 year old who didn't even start for his team that was eliminated in the 2nd round? Do you take a 6'10" swingman who can knock down 3s with an NBA body, or a 19 year old rail thin European prospect who faked a medical condition in his predraft workouts and only released his records to two teams? Is it any surprise that the team who ended up drafting Batum is the one who ignores medical records to the tune of Brandon Roy, Greg Oden and Elliot Williams?

Even if the Rockets had drafted Batum, there is no way they would have kept him, and you do the Artest trade 11 out of 10 times. You can go to war with a rotation of:

    Yao/Mutombo
    Scola/Landry
    Artest/Battier
    McGrady/Wafer
    Brooks/Lowry

and you worry about whether Batum or Jordan develop into good players 4 years down the line later.

I'm glad you were able to plant your flag down on some players. In the long run you don't get any bonus points for it, and Daryl Morey won't be subscribing to the threads you post in.

An expiring contract, a serviceable big man who is an upgrade from Hill and a first round draft pick. You don't see how that helps?

We gave up Hill (average), thabeet ( garbage) and Flynn ( garbage). We're we supposed to turn those three assets and a 2 nd rounder into Blake Griffin??

It's official, I am at war with Rocket's ownership and management. I love the team, always will, but the owner and Morey's team are clueless. I can not be convinced that they know how to build a winner, they clearly don't. How many years have they had. Les bought a winner and turned it into a loser. He has done nothing to get excited about. He has bumbled and fumbled. That picture with him holding two championship trophies makes me sick. He did nothing to earn them and has done little since.

Well done. Spoken on behalf of the fools.

Sam's deal is ungauranteed next year. We can waive him and have none of it count against the cap.
Tell me why we'd want Okafur being paid $14mill of the cap space we could use on someone else?
And what lottery pick were the Hornets giving up? There was talk of a 1st round pick, if it was a lotto pick then surely someone would've taken it? But as it turns out it was probably a protected 1st rounder. Nobody bit - not just us, nobody.

Beasley isn't a very good player, and doesn't really have a position in the NBA. Why take him on? Just to salary dump Martin?
Newsflash, we'll still have major cap space in the off-season WITH Martin here. Even with him "mailing it in", he's our leading scorer. Next season he'll be an expiring deal of considerable size that we could use to make a deal (if the right one comes up).
Why should we throw Kevin Martin away for nothing?

I'm pissed about this because it's pointless. This should have been a tank season. We should have moved whoever we could have moved to get draft picks this season. It's ridiculous.

We got a first round pick. And Camby and fisher are expiring contracts. And we gave up nothing

I get people being upset that we didn't land a whale, but we have nothing to offer for one. And Beasley? Please. That guy is dying on the vine under Adelman...and every other coach he's had.

Yeah we got rid of garbage but where are we still? I'm mostly disappointed because it looks like they still haven't committed to anything.

This team is showing no direction. Sure you can say we gave up nothing and we got "something back" but these players really have little to no value for this team. We are not contenders. This trade does not get us closer to contenders.

I didn't expect expirings for Durant and Westbrook but it not the pieces we "lost" but the pieces we still have on the roster. Smilin' Kevin and TWill (ok he's probably has negative value even as an expiring). There are some players you have to move - like Brooks last year. I don't care what you get back, it's addition by subtraction.

    This team has no compass.

We have another first round pick and more expiring money to spend in free agency. And we paid nothing for it

Extra draft pick in first round and more money in expiring contracts. Again, Not anything major but an upgrade and no reason to be disgusted

I would love to see a pro-tanker make a thread on they would go about the tanking/rebuilding process including what player they would try to draft this year, where to trade players to get picks etc.

You guys will never get others to see your point unless you can prove you know what you're talking about. As of now, it's a bunch of whining.
