Do you think a possible low-seed playoff berth was worth keeping Lee/Dragic?

For me, the most surprising part of the trade deadline is that Morey did not give up Dragic or Lee with half a season left on their contracts. Which begs the question of whether or not it's worth it.

The Rockets with Camby is still a low seed. I would say 5th or 6th seed at best. Likely out in the first round, almost certainly by the 2nd round. Then Lee and Dragic become free agents. Keep in mind that the Rockets are way under the cap, so Morey could easily have just traded them away and then sign them again in the offseason if he wished. So in essence the Rockets rented 2 months of Dragic and Lee.

I personally think it's a shortsighted move. One that seem to reek more of Les' wishes than Morey's. When Howard was off the market, I can't imagine why the Rockets would retain these two guys. They will be demanding fairly big chuck of money and won't be taking the Rockets anywhere. That we did not manage to get something for them is baffling. And make this the first trade deadline I really question Morey's moves.

    Lee is a RFA.

I think the rockets have every intention of keeping both of them.

I look for Lowry and Martin to be moved this offseason.

I want to bring back Lee for sure and Dragic to be our starter if we trade Lowry in the offseason without an elite PG in return.

Yep, keeping Lee was fine, keeping Dragic was ok if they can sign him up in the offseason, maybe they trade Lowry as Goran is actually performing at a similar level as a starter and is much more aggressive on offense and defense than Lowry.

If we couldn't or didn't want to move Lowry, together with Martin. I don't think offseason will change much.

I don't see how that matters. The Rockets are way under the cap. And Lee isn't a max guy. If we trade Lee somewhere else, we can still offer him a ton of money in the offseason to obtain him.

But even if you're right about Lee, Dragic is unrestricted. Meaning the Rockets could've simply traded him and then sign him in the offseason anyway.

    dude shut up.

im sure he tried, there were just no good deals out there for the talent of dragic and lee. trading them would ruin any chance of signing them in the offseason.

I like we kept Dragic, he might be the future with Lowry needing to give it his all to perform at a high level.

Lee needs to start, bring Martin off the bench so he can be the scorer.

Lee is a RFA and I think we match whatever he gets.

Not trading UFA Goran for something was a major fail IMO.

We need Dragic for this playoff run. I know it is a bad idea, but Les wants playoff run, he gets playoff run, tho not too far

Dragic is unrestricted. A team isn't giving up a first rounder for the same chance to sign a player if they don't trade for him.

If he was traded, the Rockets could even outbid the team he was traded to in free agency. It doesn't make sense to give up anything for Dragic now.

I wonder if this playoff push is designed to increase the trade value of Lowry, Martin, and Scola- so that we can trade them later on.

I assume we're going to resign Dragic, because I'm sure we would have heard at least rumblings if he was on the market.

The fact that we kept Dragic means Lowry is gone in the offseason and Morey will be at Dragic's door on his knees begging him to stay, probably asking him to let us match any offer.

Fact is Dragic will be offered a Lowry-like contract in the offseason and a starting job.

Only way he re-signs is if Lowry is gone imo

Isn't our team pretty young right now. Why "blow it up?" Let our guys develop.

    Lowry/Dragic/Fisher/Llull
    Lee/Martin
    Parsons/Bud/Morris
    Scola/Patterson
    Dally/Camby/Montiejunas

Most of our players are young right now.

If dragon continues this play I would be willing to trade klow, scola, and martin for some young guys and keep the team as is. We would be just as good with a lineup of:
    Dragic
    Lee
    parsons
    Pat
    Dally
That is without the guys overseas. I think Houston plans to keep Dragic and Lee. The future is bright.

The problem I see is Dragic is gone this summer for nothing. An unrestricted free agent with the ability to sign to any team and with the new CBA there is no reason for him to agree to a SnT. Morey is smarter than me so he must some alternate plan not to lose such a valuable asset.

Unless he just just couldn't get it done. He couldn't recover any real value trading on Dragic and Lowry. And rather give away his assets he decided to do nothing, with the plan to trade Lowry this summer.

I do not know. And I have to believe Morey is much smarter than me and has prethought out plan based on this scenario. And it has to be a plan on trading Lowry this summer. Because trading Dragic is not really an option. He will not be our property to trade this summer. Even a Snt is almost impossible under the new CBA. As for signing him outright and keeping him, I just don't see that happening. Dragic doesn't want to be a backup. I do not see him signing here to Lowry's b**** and I do not see Morey paying top dollar for a starting PG that won't start. So to me trading Lowry or Dragic was pretty much a neccessity this deadline.

But maybe Morey is looking at a much bigger picture. Maybe Morey knows if LA doesn't make it out of the first round Gasol will definitely have to go. Maybe Morey is looking 2 years down the line. When Chris Paul, Howard and Bynum or free agents and Martin and Scola and Dalembert are off the books.
