On top of the fact when Mario is motivated he can DOMINATE games. Whoever our QB is that day, is in big trouble
I'm not sour on him like many here seem to be. (why?) Hope he dominates and ruins Sanchez/Brady''s smug faces. While the Bills still have other holes, imagine their line if they draft Couples or Ingram.
No problem. Winston will take care of him, if he gets by him, they will chip him with Dreessen. Don't see what could go wrong.
I get your joke, but those guys sucked at pass blocking. And when Mario got off, D. Brown would even have trouble.
saying "every other team" was an exaggeration, but i also didn't realize that "contenders" shouldn't go out and attempt to sign free agents to improve their team. "nobody else is doing it, why should we"? is that your stance? also didn't mean that we have added no "major" pieces, or that we need to, i just meant that we haven't added any pieces whatsoever. and for a team with an oft-injured qb who missed a deep playoff run 100%, imo, because t.j. yates was the qb, signing a capable backup qb should absolutely be a major concern.
me? i never brought him up in this thread. blame the other guy from bringing his obnoxiousness into this one.
It sucks to see him go but frankly he's not worth that money. you can probably count on 2 fingers the number of times he's dominated a game. QBs don't really shudder in fear when they hear his name.
Cardpire, with what money do you expect the Texans to go out and get free agents? And what free agents would you have liked to sign? If you can give a list of a few players, then we could discuss more thoroughly...but just blaming the Texans for not signing anyone is silly. First, we dont have money. Second, the players that could help us via free agency are worth tens of millions of dollars. There is a reason teams like the Bucs, Bills, Redskins, etc... have capspace...because they suck. Unfortunately, when you have a good team, it means you have high priced players, which usually means you dont have much flexibility in adding good talent via free agency. That is why the draft is so important...good teams lose key pieces and replace them with rookies that perform.
False. The Bucs were bad last year, but prior to that were 10-6 (unfortunately they didn't get to play in a division where 10-6 was good enough) Also, The Patriots, Jets, Ravens, Eagles, Chargers all teams who are playoff caliber, had somewhere between 10-16 million in cap space this offseason. The Chiefs, 49ers, Bears, Broncos, Titans and Bengals all had 20 million plus in cap room (Bengals have nearly 40) and either made the playoffs this past year or just missed. With a few exceptions (Bengals, Chiefs, 49ers, Bucs) every team I just named has been significantly better than the Texans in recent history. Aside from those teams, every other team in the NFL had more cap room when FA started except the Cowboys, Cardinals and Lions. The Texans don't manage the cap well.
People who are saying he sucks or is over rated are pure sour grapes. Dude is awesome. 2010- 8 knockdowns on manning, dominated first half 3 sacks on mcnabb the next week with two passes blocked and 2 tackles for a loss. We shut him down that year because we had no chance at playoffs.
The thing nobody cares about with Mario is that most high sack guys play on teams that put a whooping on their opponents, so the opponent is forced to pass. The Texans, historically, never had any kind of lead.
besides them not signing mario, what other evidence do you have to prove this? So because they don't have an extra 10-20 million in cap laying around means they don't manage the cap well? Hell, we don't even know where they are with the cap. All we know is that they didn't give a $100 contract to mario and are letting Myers/dreessen/Briesel test the water and set the market price. The only way Myers/Dreessen/Briesel weren't going to test the market was if the texans would have given them a rich offer. Last year they were cap magicians in getting Joseph and Manning. I admit the texans are in a tight spot but all teams go through this at some point.
good point ziggy. it's no coincidence that this year has been one of the highest sack totals (i'm guessing, it certainly seems that way) in team history. we were blowing a lot of teams out.
No, they burned all their money to cover their complete failure of drafting defensive backs. 2006 - None drafted 2007 - Fred Bennett in 4th, Brandon Harrison 5th 2008 - Antwaun Molden in 3rd 2009 - Glover Quin in 4th, Brice McCain in 6th 2010 - Kareem Jackson in 1st, Sherrick McManis in 5th You got decent play out of ONE defensive back draft pick in 5 years. That forces you to blow your cap on free agents.
The Bucs team in 2010 was a complete fraud...anyone who says otherwise didn't pay attention to anything but the final record. Just like the Chiefs that year. The Jets, Eagles, and Chargers were not on the level of the Texans last season. They were all .500 teams. I would hope they would have cap money, otherwise, they'd be paying lots of money for average production. Patriots are always playing their cap well and they are extremely active during drafts. They have a system that is second to none, so if the texans aren't doing things the patriots way, I'm not too disappointed by that. Sure, there are a handful of teams that have equivalent talent with more cap room flexibility...but that's a handful out of 32 teams. Im comfortable with that.
managing the cap and their inability to draft quality CBs are two separate argument. The former, i'm not so convinced that they are "bad" at...the latter, they have been terrible.
