The Texans are so stacked that they've had two winnings seasons (not consecutively) and have mad the playoffs once under the current regime (6 years). Because of that unparalleled run of success they now are in a salary cap quagmire. You know, just like all the other good teams in the league.

of course it's near the top. does that mean there isn't room for improvement?

are we set at wr? are you happy going into the season with ben taub schaub as our qb and yates as his backup? sure looks like they aren't going to address either of those, for starters. and i'd say odds are about 50/50 to even re-sign myers at this point.

What a joke, how can this be not anything but about the money. All i have to say is Barwin in his first year pretty much got 11 sacks and Mario only did that twice.

There's always room for improvement. I didn't say there wasn't. All I'm saying is that Mario going and signing himself a $100 million contract pretty much tells me that the Texans never had a chance to retain him. We wouldn't have had the money for that no matter WHO was on our roster. Remember, there is still a draft we have to think about, which will bring about at LEAST 7 new players who will all have contracts that need signing. And to answer your question....yes, I am happy with Matt Schaub as our starter. Very few teams in the NFL have 2 Pro-Bowl caliber QBs on their roster, so I'm not sure what you're getting at with that (outside of the Peyton nonsense). I'd say we have a better than 50/50 shot at Myers, but let's let it play out before getting worked up over it.

Yeah, all the good-for-nuthin' Texans have done is sign some undrafted scrub running back. BTW, every other team? Who have the Patriots, Steelers, Ravens, Broncos and/or Bengals added? What about the Giants? Packers? Did you maybe mean "every other team... except 7 of the best teams in the league last year...."?

Good seein' ya again; keep up the good work.

not talking about him being our starter. talking about going into the season with tj yates backing him up. not exactly the smartest way to insure a currently-injured qb who gets injured all the time.

and, re-read my first post. didn't expect us to re-sign mario. was noting that this offseason has thus far been filled with losing significant pieces, and gaining none.

Sorry for the double post, but I didn't see this before. The Texans ARE stacked. We might have holes (WR2, DT, O-line depth), but all teams have holes. When the new regime took over, this team didn't just have holes.....it had gaping chasms. You can't argue that this team looks DRASTICALLY better than the team from 5-6 years ago, and while the record may not be indicative of sweeping changes, the improvement certainly has been there, and it's been steady. The salary cap quagmire comes from the fact that we have accumulated a collection of young talent that most other teams simply don't have, and all of that young talent is now ready to go out and get their big contracts. The other good teams in the league have all had to jettison starters as well....the Texans are not the only team to do that. Again, let's wait until all of this plays out before we get worked out. Nothing (outside of maybe cutting Eric Winston) unpredictable has happened so far.

All I have to say is Barwin is entering his fourth year and has 15 sacks compared to Mario's 53. Connor is 2 years younger and has less than a third of Mario's sacks.

wow...somebody is still butt-hurt from getting worked over in the peyton manning thread!

please don't bring your garbage into this one as well. we would all appreciate it. (oh, and good point, the best way for the 6th or 7th best team in the league last year to attempt to become the best team is to sign nobody and lose key pieces. thanks for teeing me up as usual).

For the record, in cardpire's world, Arian Foster = not a significant piece.

(It's kind of cool to have a nemesis, btw - really digging this...)

I don't see the problem with having a 2nd year back-up who is just coming off his first season where he played 2 playoff games. Yates will get better, and his first year wasn't really all that terrible anyways. For a team that has cap trouble, back-up QB really shouldn't be a major concern. Also, what OTHER teams that are contenders have gone out and signed major pieces? The only teams that have made significant moves so far are teams that were bottom-feeders last year who have cap space to play with.

No, the problem is we had a complete failure of a draft in 2007, 2008 (outside of Brown) and total bust in K. Jackson. Those drafts should have been giving us cheap talent but we had to make up for it by getting free agents who have proven they can play.

Ah, OK - so you get to b**** if they lose players - or even if they might lose players (Myers) - but retaining players - which impacts their ability to sign/retain other players, btw - is "meh"? Is that how it's going to work?

BTW, two of us have now asked you what other top teams have added talent after your inane "every other team in the league adding free agents and trying to improve their team besides the texans" blast. Care to address it, or is the usual empty internet chest-thumping all we should expect from you today?

Had hoped he'd sign with my Bears but sounds like the Bills never let him leave, probably knew if he didn't sign while he was there he'd come to his senses.....

The only thing that sucks is that we play Buffalo this year.
