What does he have against Houston? If anything it boosts his popularity, and twitter following. Unless someone is in his ear. It would be disheartening though.

    Quotes from the interview

Dwight Howard has confirmed that he will opt-in for the 12-13 season in an exclusive interview with RealGM's Jarrod Rudolph.

Howard will formally sign the paperwork in the morning on Thursday.

"My soul, everything I have is in Orlando. I just can't leave it behind."

Over the course of Wednesday, Howard appeared to be indecisive on his wishes for the 12-13 season in the face of a possible trade from the Magic. The organization informed Howard they would seek a trade if he couldn't give them an assurance of his desire to remain beyond the current season.*

"I have gotten some bad advice," said Howard. "I apologize for this circus I have caused to the fans of our city. They didn't deserve none of this."

Impressive if true. Those crafty agents, always looking out for the best interests of their clients.

Interesting, but I think it's over.

At the very least, Daryl now has 11 hours to go to option B-C-D-E-F-G-H-Z...

    (Praying for Evan Turner...)

For entertainment's sake more than anything I hope Dwight "changes his mind" after all about signing that comitment this morning, & this has all just been a trick to drag it out as close as possible to the deadline so he can't get traded.. Now If Orlando's smart, they already have something pending on the table, ready to go at the last minute just in case.

Are there any similar courtesies above & beyond the contracts that go the other way, that teams extend to players when it comes to them getting traded for instance (maybe when gasol heard the trade rumors he could have demanded the Lakers sign something promising they won't)? Otherwise I have no problem with players doing whatever's best for them so long as they play hard wherever they are & abide by the contract. If how the system is set up isn't working for the teams, they have the power to change it.

Because this just seems weird- "you better sign a contract now promising you'll sign the contract later." Just seems like something he shouldn't have to do. The system is set up for Dwight to make his decision when it's time- not by today, so ball's in Orlando's court. Like it or not there is gamesmanship & bluffing in business. So long as everything's within the rules, no one owes anything outside of the contract.

The time is today for the Magic. If he doesn't sign they are going to trade him because they can't afterwards. Howard is within his rights not to sign and the Magic are within theirs to demand that he does or get traded.

What does this mean for D-Will in 2012? And what if Howard and CP3 team up in 2013?

He's already tarnished his reputation in Orlando, I doubt he'll end up signing a long contract over there.. who knows. I wish this was the NBA of the old, where you play for what team you're on and if you wanted to trade you asked for it, then get traded. END OF STORY. None of this, I want to play for this team and that team. WTF? Just go sign somewhere else and leave in free agency. That said though, I don't mind seeing him in a Rockets uniform, even if its just for a year. At least if he leaves, we'll legitimately tank. Sucks that it can't be this draft class though. We can always try to rebuild like the Thunder/Sonic where we get good high draft picks.

Maybe this is the masterplan, put all our eggs in one basket, if it doesn't work out. NY ends up missing the playoffs, our rental leaves, we could score a high draft pick from NY and then next year we could get another shot at a franchise player. Then the fans can't have said Morey didn't try his hardest to get things done. It's like people on this forum think that franchise players are born on trees and that every disgruntled star is dying to come to Houston to play for a GM that needs change the team every trade deadline.

Oh 3pm ET can't come soon enough..
