    I'd be pissed off

Don't give up D-Mo AND first round picks for a rental for Howard.

Sweet. Is it possible to pull a fast one one team with having another deal already pending or do all teams know about pending deals somehow?

Listening to Paul Kennedy(sideline reporter for Magic) he's saying he believes Howard will be traded. Howard told team today he's opting out. PK thinks New Jersey is the front runner to land DH in a trade but Houston or Warriors are a possibility.

Really looks like Nets are getting him.

This interview was on the JT the brick show, just now.

    What if it's like this:

I would do that, and here is why:

    Lowry/Dragic
    Martin/Lee
    Parsons/Budinger
    Scola/Dalembert
    Howard/Dalembert

That team is not just a championship contender. In my opinion, that team is the favorite to make it to the NBA Finals. Next year you have to let Dragic walk but I bet Dwight strongly considers signing an extension.

The more I think about it, the more i want the dwight rental not to happen. Just see if you can get anything for martin, scola, and some of the 09'ers. If not, amnesty some peeps and take on okafur's contract for a pick. Were all getting super excited about having a big name player on our team for a small portion of a shortened season and i really would rather NJ have their roster raped if they're the ones who will end up with dwight anyway. I understand the forced tanking logic but it seems to go against what DM has been trying to do all along. Collect assets, then trade them for a superstar that will leave after 20 games and then tank anyway...

That's Morey's way of getting around Les forcing the team to stay competetive .... it literally breaks the handcuffs.

    Yeah I'd do that.

But not give up D-Mo because he's a big wild card right now, along with those draft picks. If we are giving up draft picks they need to be top 10 protected. Because if Howard leaves which could be likely we'll be in a deep hole that will take years of getting out of as opposed to Howard leaving and at least having our draft picks to fall back on.

This is a part of why the Knicks got into their situation by dealing away their 1st rounders. If that franchise weren't located in New York they'd still be stuck in nowhere.

Oh dear God, I can see the headline now: "Rockets Owner Nixes Proposed Howard to Houston Deal" because he's afraid of the risk involved that comes with rebuilding.

That's the thing... it's not a deep hole... you still have basically the entire current rotation minus Patterson. It dings up our future assets for sure, but we still have trade chips.

No freaking way would I make that deal. We need some draft picks to rebuild if Howard bolts. What's the point of tanking if we don't get to keep our picks. We would be the bobcats.

Well, you can wreck the current roster and have a lot less chance that Howard signs an extension, or you can wreck the future in exchange for having one of the top 3-4 teams in the NBA if he signs a new deal.

Yeah but i feel like we already have a lot of the pieces we would need to build this team. Dmo, lowry/llul, parsons... plus we already have an avenue open to us (NOH) to get a top 3 pick by taking on a bad contract (which we would have to do with a dwight rental anyway). Not to mention we'd be giving away the knicks pick too which is looking rather nice these days.
