I will say that if I could keep 3 players around him, they would be Lowry, Parsons, and Patterson. I would not hesitate to put Morris in the trade.

My assumption is the trade would be centered...ha!...around Scola/Martin, NYK pick, Morris, expirings and we'd take on either Turkey Glue or Nelson/Richardson depending on salary obligations.

In any event, you make that trade.

So what? I'd give up a LOT for a chance at Howard. Morey wouldn't do it if he thought there was no chance to sign him to an extension. If there's a chance, go for it.

Morey can also, like many here, delude himself into thinking that he can re-sign Dwight. When truly he doesn't have a chance in hell!!

21 game rental. That's probably the most important thing to remember. The Magic are playing the Spurs right now. Could be Howard's last game for them.

    Heres how I would roll:

    To Houston
    Gerald Wallace
    Dwight Howard
    Von Wafer

    To Portland
    Jameer Nelson
    Chase Budinger

    To Orlando
    Kevin Martin
    Samuel Dalembert
    Marcus Morris
    Jordan Hill
    Rights to Donteous Montejounas
    2012 NY #1 (top 5 protected)

Portland gets a decent PG and a cheap young gunner to replace Wallace, who might walk in the offseason. They also free up time/space for Batum at the 3

Orlando gets Morris, Montejounas, Hill and a possible top ten pick to start rebuilding with. Dalembert is expiring and Martin could be flipped, possibly to a team like Minny for some more youth.

Houston rents to own, trying to entice Dwight with a better team than what he could wind up with in New Jersey. Houston can make a run at the title this year, or rebuild in the offseason if Dwight walks. They could also amnesty Scola in the offseason to free up max cap space to entice Deron over.

    Lowry / Dragic
    Lee / Wafer
    Wallace / Parsons
    Scola / Patterson
    Howard / Smith

what makes new jersey so special is what i'm wondering??? d-will doesn't even wanna be there. lol. when d-will leaves new jersey, he would surely be interested in a rockets team with howard on it. I think we might have a chance, but i'm definitely not getting my hopes up. I'm fully prepared to be utterly dissappointed, but all we can do is hope.

The chances we can bring in DWill this summer are, to me, equal to the chance DH12 would leave us with nothing. I also believe that sign/trade rules still allow us to sign and trade him in the event he does bolt.

I can't understand how on earth you and others are rejecting these scenarios as worse than the current state of the franchise.

@WojYahooNBA: "Dwight doesn't want to be the bad guy," source involved in process says of last 24 hours. "He doesn't want to be unpopular. He flaked out."

That's not an argument against doing the trade. There are plenty of reasons to do the trade even knowing he won't resign.

    $$$ son.

Dwight wants to be a brand. Have you ever been to NYC? If I wanted to be a brand, I would do business in NYC.

If the Rockets could trade for DHo, I know we'd have less assets, but honestly, I'm thinking the same thing. If we could land DHo and we have the cap room to sign DWill to max contract, I don't why we wouldn't at least have a chance. I'm with you on this one.

I would not mind us trading Martin/Lowry/Dally/Morris/Picks for Howard/Turkoglu; I'd even add Patterson or Bud if have to.

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=78jvft5

    That would leave us with
    C- Howard/Hill/Smith
    PF- Scola/Patterson
    SF- Parsons/Bud/Turkoglu
    SG- Lee
    PG- Dragic/Flynn

I think he does. Houston has a bigger market, better front office, nice warm climate, low taxes, and even after gutting the team probably still a better supporting cast for Dwight than Orlando. And of course it's a lot of money to leave on the table if Dwight leaves in FA.

I think there's a shot. It's a long shot, but it could happen.

But Dragic/Lee most likely walk after this season. Don't think Daryl wants to pay them.
