Why would he be fired he is doing exactly what his boss wants him to do. Which is to stay competitve while trying to build a championship team. I mean would you be fired for doing what your boss asks? He had a trade lined up that would have vaulted us into a top 4 seed until Stern stepped in. What do you want a trade just to make a trade?

Seems like you already know who the problem here is .... Its Les.

Morey has done a pretty damn good job considering the paramaters he has to work within. Its just near impossible to land a superstar in the draft when you pick 14th and when dealing with FA's who want a big market or to play with other stars .... what more can the guy do other than marginal upgrades until he has the assets to get the star on the roster.

If I were Morey I'd be actively looking for a job that would allow me to fully use every tool avaliable rather than handcuff me to a .500 team year after year.

Didn't we find out during the lockout that Houston was one of the profitable teams in this league?

Nene was never signing in Houston, we were leverage only, and honestly that was better for us overall.

Exactly. If Les wants to stay competitive then how can anyone complain? Is the argument really that if Morey wasn't so good at making roster moves then we would have inadvertantly gotten high lottery picks despite trying to be competitive?

I especially like the claim made in this thread that Morey is too conservative and won't take chances. Great timing since he's currently chasing Dwight Howard and willing to take a chance of acquiring him without an extension. Same as he did last year with Anthony. Morey has never hesitated to take a risk but that's very different than making stupid moves.

I completely disagree. Nene pretty much admitted as much when Denver was in town last homestand. I wasn't a big fan of acquiring Nene for the pricetag that it would have cost but it was a done deal if we had been able to acquire Gasol.

    Edit:

Here's the quote I was refering to:

Nuggets center Nene did not quite confirm the widespread conjecture that he would have signed with the Rockets as a free agent had the Rockets’ proposed trade for Pau Gasol been completed, opening cap room to sign Nene. He did come close, referring to Houston as “a better spot.”

“We had a great conversation,” Nene said. “Kevin McHale is a legend. It was a privilege for me to sit down with him, have a little time with him. I like the city. I signed with Denver. I love Denver, but I still like this city. I have friends here.”

Asked if he would have signed with the Rockets, Nene laughed and said: “I can’t answer that. People think it.”

Nene cited a variety of reasons for his fondness for Houston, not the least of which was a quality Houston has that few NBA cities can match; ample humidity.

“It’s like Brazil,” Nene said. “It’s humid, like tropical. Nice. I like the players that play here. I love Denver. All my career is right there. Friends. Family. I’m in a good spot. I could have been in a better spot, but I’m in a good spot right now.”]

Les needs a puppet at GM (just like he keeps trying to find in a coach).

I really think Leslie is sabotaging any concrete strategy Morey has to progress the team. I'm not a huge Morey fan anymore but I do think, given a fair shot and without the owner looking over his shoulder, he is still capable of being a good GM.

    aelliott...with ALL due respect...

How much risk is there in circulating through the media that you'd rent Melo or Howard? Especially when HOU wasn't a preferred choice for either.

In my view, very little risk. Especially when as GM, Morey should have a fairly accurate gauge on the interest of the trade partner.

We'll agree to disagree. But it's media hype with the twist that..on the unlikely re-signing...you've cleared a ton of cap space. Low risk IMHO.

Morey uses statistics and math equations to pick players instead of popularity. This doesnt work with fans as evident in ratings and attendence. Hope he changes his approach starting tonight. We need a player to attract attention or that is known as a consistant rebound/blocker/scorer. If morey wont do it i am sure les will find someone who can

so your happy with back to back #14 draft picks and on the road to ANOTHER .500 season??

If we had just tanked the last 2 years we would be with 2 top 10 maybe top 5 draft picks.. instead we have 1 on the bench playing bencher minutes, 1 in the d-league and 1 overseas..

I think Morey has done a decent job with trades, but some of his latest draft choices have been umm sub .500…

i'd say Morey has been ok, but some, ok a lot of people on here treat him like he has positioned us for glory..

Awesome. Great. I completely agree that we're trapped at .500 and going all in for Dwight is a good calculated risk because we either need to go up or down.

So, if this happens, you're willing to publicly commit to supporting Morey's decision in the future even if Dwight leaves for New Jersey, right? After all, you're asking him to take a risk and risks often don't work out.

If David Stern does not veto the Gasol trade, the Rockets are the favorites in the West, with a 9 man rotation of:

    Nene/Hayes
    Gasol/Patterson
    Parsons/Budinger
    Lee
    Lowry/Lin

With Morris in the D-League, and Llull/Motiejunas overseas. I'd say that's better than OK, and the only thing that stopped it was a historically unprecedented move by the league office.

Woah there buddy. Favorites of the West? That lineup is a top 4 Conference team, but not one that merits WC favorites

I'd rather have a team built to win than a team built to temporarily sell tickets.

    Howard helps us win.

When you look at the bottom line not financially but fanwise, he hasn't done much. I have no idea why he is largely worshipped on this site. Basically, he keeps shuffling the deck and going nowhere. Les may be a factor in the frustrating results but no way of knowing. I think he is running out of chips.
