Regardless of what Dwight Howard said during meeting with teammates, source close to Howard said he informed Alex Martins that he'll opt-in.

Well to be fair, none of the other guyswent back-n-forth with their teams like this. Bron and Bosh pretty much let it be known they would honor their contracts and test free agency (may come back, may not). Wade did the same. I don't even recall CP3 making any noise about going somewhere. Deron was blindsided by his trade and always said he would test free agency. And Melo was sending messages about NY from day 1.

Dwight Howard has also told several friends and family members that will opt-in to the final year of his contract, according to sources.

Dwight can talk all he wants about opting in and tell the whole world! Until he and his agent sign the paperwork....keep on talking then I guess?

I'm just not willing to demonize the guy. We have no idea what he actually said today. Other than that, we know that last night he said he wanted to stay. Ball is entirely in Orlando's court on that.

He is saying that he will opt in....but only if the Magic agree not to trade him and let him walk away after next season. It's all a play to be able to walk away without being traded so the team he wlks to doesn't have to give up anything.

I wish this would just end. I'm done refreshing this. I'm going to the game tonight so hopefully when I get back we will actually have some real news.

    exactly.

but it's frustrating because i have no idea what he actually "talked" about today. these tweets are entirely contradictory.

Yes, which is why I personally believe that Dwight Howard is going to screw Orlando worse than LBJ.

He is a self-interested dick. I can't blame him for that, he can still bring a city a championship, but let's be real, Dwight is worse than what we've seen before so the teams that want him have to know real baggage comes with #12.

The report I most believe is: http://www.orlandopinstripedpost.co...ade-rumors-deadline-2012-magic-nets-dan-fegan

The Magic are going to trade him emotionally/angrily because his media tactics are below the belt to their old school owner. He could have walked in DeVos's office and signed the opt-in paperwork and asked to not be traded but instead he goes to the media with nothing to show for it after when they previously agreed on closed negotiations which Otis Smith has painfully for us lived up to saying a combination of 5 words during every interview.

well....that's what one source is reporting.

others are saying the front office and teammates are saying he never talked about next year at all.

There's no question he is talking....selectively....to the wrong people. It's a ploy. He's not coming straight because he wants to walk away.

Is it possible that this is just a media dog and pony show? Maybe Howard actually does want to facilitate a trade to NJ, which will net Orlando something in return. This back and forth is just to force NJ to up the price.

holy crap...how are they below the belt. that article you cited says he told them to "roll the dice" and let him finish out the season so they could try to win a championship. he said that on the heels of a great comeback to beat the heat. certainly he was pumped up heading in the locker room when he made those comments.

now it's entirely on the magic to bring him back or not. howard himself acknowledges there's risk in that (telling them to roll the dice).

let me guess...you really hated dwight howard long before this whole thing went down? :)

LOL at this entire Dwight Howard saga. If you are a Magic fan you have to be 3 sheets to the wind right about now.

then trade him! it's entirely in the rights of the orlando magic to trade him for everything they can get to any team in the league. do it now! trade him!!

the ploy is so razor thin that i can't call it a ploy. on the heels of a big win he got excited about staying with his current team to try to finish it out. everything beyond that today is just he said/he said entirely. i'm having a difficult time seeing that what he's doing is so evil...or that the magic are real victims. they're all big boys.

I absolutely LOVE Dwight Howard as a player and would loveto have him on our team. Courtney Lee is the perfect player to play alongside Dwight and Lowry would become a true PG with obligations and responsibilities other than burying a desperation 3. Dwight would improve our franchise top to bottom and give us some games on ESPN.

    BUT.....

I'm a realist and know that if we rent Howard he has significantly more reasons to go to NJ and secondarily Dallas, than staying in Houston unless we made an amazingly deep playoff run or he falls in love with a member of Clutchfans while he is here and she convinces him to stay (and by the look of these aliases we don't have an abundance of females to offer amongst this community  ).

I'm smiling because you don't see that he is playing the media to get what he wants. I'm not mad at him, he has every right to, but as a realist I expect DeVos to respond in the old school way and deal him. As a realist, I don't believe this opt-in nonsense when all he has to do is sign a piece of paper his agent and the team carry 10 copies of on them at all times I bet lol
