when would he have to present it in writing? guessing howard was hoping to pull a boozer -- saying he wont leave and then after the trade deadline passes he decides to bolt in the summer anyway. assuming the magic brass want it signed asap if true but if he hasnt signed anything i would not take him for his word right now and try to get the best value right now for him dwight is totally trying to have his cake and eat it too
They'll probably still hate him anyway, and they won't be joining him in Jersey. It'll look like a douche move to fans sure, but if I'm Dwight Howard the last thing I'm concerned with is how the teammates in Orlando-some of whom need Dwight to be successful (Turk)- feel.
Larry Coon @LarryCoon He actually makes more in 2012-13 by opting in. RT @JFranks4Real: Opting makes no financial sense for Dwight, correct? Why, then?
Yeah a couple mill here and there while risk losing tens of millions. Not to mention the Adidas contract which would be the equivalent of an NBA salary anyway.
A ring would easily make him more money than staying in Orlando. Josh Smith won't win you a championship, Dwight. But D-Will can.
damn I am so sick of this teenage agirl going back and forth. I am surprised he hasn't signed with LrMRR marketing yet(lebron's james marketing company that has all the guys who demand trades-LBJ, Melo, Chris Paul)
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA Three Magic players tell Y! Sports (2 to @SpearsNBAYahoo) and one to me that Dwight Howard did not tell them he was opting in for next year. Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA Said one Magic player on Howard meeting: "Next year was not even mentioned in meeting...He told us he was "all-in" for this season."
Hilarious. Watching this unfold throughout the day has been entertaining to say the least. *brings out the popcorn*
They should just trade him to Sacramento or something as punishment for playing with our heads. I'm picturing Howard just standing in the post, watching as Tyreke chucks another shot up.
So, I'm guessing the Magic said they have a deal to bring help by trading for Josh Smith, but will only do it if they know Howard is back next season. And they can only really know if he picks up his option. But, I don't see how that's a better team than a Nets team with Howard and Williams. And, Howard takes on contract risk to do it. I still don't get why he'd want to do this.
It's probably a game of chicken right now, Howard's saying he'll stay if Smith comes in, and Management says they'll bring him in if Howard stays. Clock's ticking, and the pressure is on management, I say they cave first.
#1 It let's him save face, now he can say he gave them one last chance to improve. #2 He has now thrown the ball back at the feet of the Magic, if they deal him he gets to say he never wanted to leave #3 He gets to wait another year and see what new opportunities, teams become available #4 He may not even sign the option and force the Magic to call his bluff.
I think trash talking..... Some teammates he told this... the others that..... and not telling the management.... and no sign papers!!! grandeur
No, no pressure on management. He either does the paperwork to pick up the option or he doesn't. If he does, he's stuck for another year. If he doesn't, then he obviously doesn't mean it and they trade him -- to the Rockets!
