I'm pretty sure it's the other way around. They will make sure he opts in by tomorrow.

He isn't, but the rest of the league is. Morey is throwing out an offer he can live with, but its not like he expects it to stick.

Here's why he does this -Why not just make an offer???... It forces New Jersey to the table to negotiate with Orlando, and the sooner that deal falls into place the sooner other surrounding deals starting falling and the Rockets will be able to get deals done.

deron has already opted out of his contract.

dwight is now supposedly picking up his option to stay in orlando for the 2012-13 season.

This is a perfect opportunity for Morey to sweep into the chaos and grab something of value. It seems that most teams plan for scenarios A and B, but generally don't go beyond that.

Morey has multiple plans and looks for the abstract.

Time to go all in for Deron Williams, or my personal wish list of James Harden, Marcin Gortat, Josh Smith (co-owner supposedly said almost 0% chance of trading him), or Demarcus Cousins.

I didn't realize Deron could opt out before the end of the season? In fact, he can't.

Back before the season began there was a lot of talk that he'd "opt out" - however he hasn't done that yet (since he cannot) and in the last month or so, since all the 'Dwight to NJ' hoopla, it has seemed more likely that Deron will stay and be joined by Dwight.

It's a form that says he will waive his Early Termination Option (ETO). Needs to be signed by Dwight and his agent.

Yeah, the team most hurt by this is NJ. They won't be able to talk Deron into staying, which means Howard won't be there in 2013 or 2014.

Morey needs to approach NJ with an offer. Martin and Scola for Brooks and a return of Houston's 2012 pick.

Ok, so what teams are in line for Deron as far as trades, or is he just going to Dallas this summer?

OK I must be dumb but if we do sign him and he decides to walk and just leave money on the table wouldn't we just be screwed over royally? It is not like he actually needs the extra 5 million a year the sign and trade would bring him. Thought I heard something about a 200 million Adidas contract waiting for him in the boroughs.
