It should be noted that this comes after the US gave telecoms over 200 billion in tax breaks for fiber upgrades that never materialized. That's about $2000 per taxable person.
AT&T is now clearly defining it's throttling policy for unlimited data plans. 3G and '4G' (HSPA+) get throttled at 3GB of data. 4G LTE gets throttled at 5GB of data. http://www.att.com/esupport/datausage.jsp Customers are still getting screwed but not as bad as when this brouhaha first started.
I'm glad the 4GLTE cap is much higher. When you have access to much higher speeds, your usage really goes up. My brother recently switched from an iPhone on at&t, and he never went over 1.5gbs. Now, on a Verizon Galaxy Nexus he's getting close to 3 gbs with a week to go on his billing cycle. Luckily for him, he was able to take advantage of the "double your data" promotion and is on a 4GB for $30 plan.

Sprint. Until they jump ship, their unlimited data is the greatest thing ever. Virgin coming out with the no minutes and "unlimited" data and text sounds great, until you see it's only 2.5gbs and is throttled to 256kbs after that. I don't live in an area with 4G service. Only get to use it when I'm in Houston etc. My use since Sunday: I could not last on a limited data....at least that low.
Per this guy's case above - that would qualify as a breach of contract per that particular judge. And of course it is. It's a textbook bait-and-switch. It's not like it's difficult. If you cannot or are not willing to provide the service, DON'T OFFER IT. Idiots. EDIT: To be clear, ATT's threats to discontinue service are per the customer's tethering - not his court case per say. Although the article does indicate they want to settle that quietly too (non-disclosure)... More importantly, it appears plausible (maybe) that the judge thought restricting tethering was, in itself, a limitation on the claim of "unlimited" data.
I think all these other providers are seriously using shady advertising. They should NOT be stating unlimited data.
This sounds just like "the good ol' days" when ISP's advertised "unlimited Internet" that really wasn't.
I've got a better idea. Just download something non-stop using your phone's data plan. They think 2GB is too much? **** them. Use 30GB.
Haha, it's all gravy for me. I'm grandfathered into unlimited data on Verizon LTE I only average 9 gigs a month though. heh.
I know what I'm gonna do this month. Use 30-40 gigs. If they throttle, I'll keep calling customer service until they get annoyed and have to disconnect the whole account.
Haha, that's awesome. If anyone here is a Sprint customer who wants out on their contract and own an Android. You can root it, and there's an app that force roams you onto Verizon's network. Once you do this, go nuts on Verizon and Sprint will call you and tell you they are going to terminate your contract lol
i am waiting for a windows phone from verizon/sprint..and i am out. i am not even in a contract. is it possible to use 30gb a month without tethering?
