Right, but you can't S&T at the bird contract rate anymore. The most you can put in a S&T contract is the same amount NJ/Dallas could offer as a regular free agent.

That's why there's been talk about Orlando wanting to call his bluff. Once the deadline passes, Dwight has to leave some money on the table to leave (S&T or no).

Okay, thanks (and JayZ750) for the clarification of the new CBA rule. So there's a good chance of him leaving without getting anything back. You know, that might not be a bad thing for those who want to tank.

How can you say Yao has only been retired for a year?

The last time he played at full strength was playoffs 2009....the last time he stepped on the court was novemberish of 2010.

It's now March of 2012. Get real.

You're right. If you're cool with the status quo, we don't.

But, I'm not, so, we must.

The team revolves around me, you see.

    It'll probably be more like

    Dragic
    Lee
    Parsons
    Motiejunas
    Howard

I think Lowry will have to be the centerpiece of our offer to Orlando

Fixed because Howard won't stay any other way.

I doubt we trade lowry for a rental. Maybe kmart, scola, dally, picks at most, which is still better than a nj package

That would be awesome. I read a headline on the realm page that Orlando will trade Howard if he does not commit.

We might as well try to trade for D-Will with Lowry if Orlando accepts a package not including him. Try to keep one of Lee, Parsons, or Bud either way.

Ok, I was misunderstanding what you were saying earlier. Agreed, the team that has him under contract going into FA has a decided advantage. The question is, would D12 leave that money on the table thinking he can make it up in endorsement deals by going to NJ? Should be a fascinating look at what really motivates today's athletes. If I were Orlando (or Houston) I'd try to call his bluff - see if he's really willing to walk away from $30MM.

no way...there is no way lowry is involved if we take him as a rental. Only way its worth the risk is if we shed off big money contracts like scola and martin...and only give up draft picks and young talent like morris. I guarantee you lowry wont be dealt in this scenario...more likely for pau than howard.

Dwight is going to screw Orlando worse than LBJ screwed Cleveland because he is manipulating his own free agency. He doesn't care about the extra money because being in Brooklyn with a brand new Adidas contract means you have more money than playing 2nd fiddle in Chicago to D Rose and winning rings (his reluctance to go to Chicago is a clear indication of his motives, so everyone who wants Dwight stop ignoring this fact!) Dwight's Adidas $$ is a BIG reason why the extra year and $20 mil he can get from Orlando doesn't mean very much. AND that endorsement deal is in Brooklyn..... have you seen Dwight? He will make a clothing line before his 2nd year in with Jay-Z or some NYC designer I assure you. His decision isn't solely about basketball reasons so what does Houston have to offer outside of that? If I were him I'd rather play for Cuban than Les.... just sayin.

If you want to rent Dwight, that's fine, but please come to terms with REALITY!
Reality means that our only chance of keeping him would be:
    A. An amazing playoff run
    B. A secondary trade is made alongside this move by tomorrow to bring in another A level talent
    C. He falls in love with some beautiful member of Clutchfans who convinces him to stay

Other than that, there is virtually no reason why he wouldn't opt out just to test the market with all teams being a possibility and from there I don't see why D Will and Dwight would sign in Houston instead of just going to Brooklyn or even Dallas. That's reality folks. But when he leaves we wouldn't be that much worse for the wear assuming we moved K-Mart & Scola to get Dwight.... we'd have some great cap space and be able to sign Courtney Lee to a longterm deal like we always have planned to and continue our build from there.

i'd really like to know if big city endorsements can fully compensate that type of shortfall. its a staggering figure to bluff with.

It's a bad thing if we tank and Orlando has all of our draft picks.
