This was pretty much Knick fans' biggest concern when Melo returned. They are all fighting to be the leader of the team. Is it Amare? Is it Lin? Is it Melo? Now you add in Baron Davis, a washed up player complaining about playing time to D'Antoni when he was outright beaten for the starting spot by Lin. D'Antoni may have lost respect from the team, but who is to say the new coach will even earn respect from the team in the first place? He has an impossible task of babying up to the melodramatic New York players.
Linsanity probably extended his coaching tenure by a month or two, but this is pretty much inevitable.
This could be good news or it could be bad news for us. Let's hope they lose more games in the interim.
I'm surprised someone didn't make a thread for this article: http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/story/_/id/7684157/mike-dantoni-lost-new-york-knicks-locker-room-according-sources Read more at the link. As I've said, this team is a total mess, and the bolded part just made me LOL. It's exactly what they look like. Watching them from Linsanity to now, it's like a car crash in slow motion. Yeah, they beat weak teams plus the Lakers/Mavs during Linsanity. But I don't think this team right now would win any games during that stretch.
this is BAD news for JEremy lin unless they find a coach willing to run the same offense he is not going to be as effective. GHe needs to follow D'antoni and that PG based offense FAST
This is getting uglier by the minute. So, maybe there is some fruition to that whole Melo trade drama earlier. Either trade me or fire the coach I don't like. Knicks are a hot mess and coaching is the LEAST of the concern over there right now. They have ball demanding players(Melo, Lin, Davis) and other former star players(Amare) who's shots are going down just because of the drama. YUCK.
This wasn't a good marriage. A coach unwillingly/or doesn't know how to adapt to his star players, and a player who doesn't know how to adapt to the system. Basically, Melo is an iso player. He plays in one system. D'antoni system doesn't allow for a superstar scorer; he needs a PG to run that system. Bad fit.
Howard Beck New York Times: Players are hurt and upset of the resignation of D'Antoni. This just shows the team is split right down the middle. Earlier during the Melo trade drama there were reports that Amare has been telling Melo to trust D'Antoni's offense and whatnot. I don't know what Iso-City (Mike Woodson) is gonna do to change the hot trash that is the knicks.
Hmm, he had that well publicised beef with Josh Smith when he coached the Hawks. If Smith's play was too selfish for Woodson and he's also not going to get D from Melo... This could get ugly quick.
The problem here clearly lies with Melo. They did fine without him, and have sucked since he came back. Look at Denver - they dealt his whiny ass and haven't missed a beat.
d'antoni is an overrated coach. he underachieved with a stacked phoenix suns team with prime nash and never made the finals.
