Hmm..didn't know horford was on the trading blocks. Would like to see him on the Rockets. Wonder what it would take...

If LAL-CLE-HOU Flynn trade (for LAL first rounder) doesn't pan out, then I'd be happy to ship him either to:

CLE for the 2012 NOH 2nd rounder they own; or

SAS for a future (protected) first rounder.

I'd give San Antonio Flynn for free.

    Like a trojan horse

Be careful there! San Antonio rarely makes bad moves (the Scola trade aside).

I'm actually afraid that the Spurs want Flynn. It probably means we're missing something on him. ;)

I don't think ATL would trade Horford; he's too rare a commodity. And no team on earth should want Joe Johnson, so that really only leaves Josh Smith to trade away.

But why wait until summer? To chase a doomed playoff run? To trade up in the draft? That's the part that is puzzling.

I do respect Buford, but he hasn't been totally flawless. Scola's trade aside, he also signed Jefferson to that atrocious contract.

SAS is a heavily system-dependent team, where your fit within the overall machine is more important than your individual talent. So maybe there's a very specific skill that Popovich can leverage out of Flynn.

In "fairness" to the Spurs, that contract SMACKED of a wink-wink deal that, if caught, would have cost the Spurs multiple draft picks (a la the T-Wolves with the Joe Smith signing).

Richard Jefferson surprisingly (at the time) opted out of the last year of the deal he signed with the Nets, which would have paid him over $15M last year. Had he not opted out, the Spurs would have been absolutely SLAMMED by the luxury tax hit. Jefferson did the Spurs a huge favor, and they "repaid" him with his new longer-term contract. (If that wasn't a pre-arranged deal, though, then I'm a Morey Hater!) :p

I'd assume the Hawks would be getting back a big man, maybe the Hornets are sending Kaman or Okafor? Unless the Hawks are totally blowing it up, in which case they could be trying to trade Horford or Johnson- although that is messy.
