If Carmelo came here there would be a honeymoon period but once the losses started to stack up everyone here would turn on him. He somewhat reminds me of Iverson in the way everything has to revolve around him... but Iverson played really hard all the time and was a true superstar(Carmelo doesn't and isn't).
Carmelo Anthony is a "star" player in the same way that guys like Antoine Walker, Stephon Marbury, and Allen Iverson were stars. They put up numbers, but you can't build a winning team around them. They eat up salary, are a detriment in many aspects of the game, and inhibit the improvement of their teammates.
Iverson and those three players are no where in the same category. Iverson carried quite possibly one of the worst teams to ever make it to a championship (minus Cleveland) all on his own. Maybe an over 32 of age Iverson. But, Melo is no Iverson.
If he could somehow get Dwight too, I'd be all for it. I'd be fine with (more or less) completely gutting the roster for those two. Otherwise, no.
I want people to understand that teams Melo has played for (Knicks and Denver) played BETTER without him for a REASON. He is, imo, the biggest waste of a talent currently in the NBA.
The Eastern Conference was incredibly weak that year. The other "contenders" (Heat, Bucks, Knicks) didn't even make the playoffs the following season. And Iverson himself was very much responsible for driving out talented players. I'll admit that his effort on the court did carry the 76ers at times, but his playstyle and attitude also held the team back in many ways.
Melo came out and said today that he doesnt know where that rumor came from and that he doesnt want to be traded...soooo no. and dont want him anyway
The people on this board are ridiculous. If we even had a chance at Carmelo (it's pretty evident we don't) we should jump all over it, as every other team in this league would. The Knicks are playing bad because they play terrible defense collectively and are poorly coached. If you guys stopped di%k riding Jeremy Lin for five minutes you'd realize that the guy that's averaging 25 points a game for his career is not the primary problem with that organization.
Things are a mess in NY at the moment (well that's often the case). Nevertheless, both the Knicks and Melo will thrive once they part ways. As much as many of us would like to rebuild, the reality that is Les's edict stands. So, considering that NY and Houston are tied by the pick and our need to go now......We grab Melo for a discount, contingent on a done deal for Gasol.
Generally, I say no. but after last night, this would be tempting: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=76bzgss
