Great, the discussion was never about that, so we'll leave it there.

Not sure why you brought up the concept of "forcing" trades when no one else had, as the guy you were replying to didn't even mention it.

If you choose to believe that Carmelo didn't exert any influence or power in order to:

    1) Leave Denver early

    and

    2) Go to his desired destination

Then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Watching ESPN right now and it seems like it is between NJ and no trade at all, with Dhow signing with either Dallas or NJ.

I brought it up in response to the league being managed by stars. Not really. This is just a case of free agents deciding where they will play when their contracts are up.

I mean there has been a history of even rookies demanding where they want to go.

Steve Francis and Kobe Bryant for example were lottery pick players that openly said they didn't want to play for their team when they were drafted.

This league is in many ways managed by high caliber players. Coaches have been fired because of superstars, just look at Deron Williams and Jerry Sloan.

Now you have Melo, who is apparently calling for D'Antoni's resignation when he just joined the team a year ago.

And trading him to us...if he is willing to sign with dallas...then hed be willing to sign with us...I am sure D will would be okay with coming here its close to his home... We would have to cap space to sign D will ... Howard keep a reasonable young good core...and add a couple of veterans that wan to win.

Interestingly enough Allen and Garnett are free agents..........................

What do you expect from ESPN?

Last night they showed no highlights from our game against OKC. They showed the final score. That's it.

If OKC had won---by 50 points or by 1 point---they would have shown highlights.

ESPN only talks up superstars and frontrunner teams. That's it.

Not sure if this has been brought up but could Morey want to trade for Howard to flip him to either LA team or NJ? Is that even possible?

While were being unrealistic here, lets think of the line up if we signed Dwill and traded for melo
    Williams
    Allen
    Carmelo
    Garnett
    Howard

Its the *****ing eastern allstar game.

That's exactly what he would be doing. Morey is not naive enough to believe Howard will stay. He will do everything he can to keep him but he knows in all likelihood Howard is after the playoffs. But he's okay with that because he knows when he walks will be getting Brook Lopez and the nets top five lottery pick and that's too start the bidding.

this prima donna throws up 20/20 with great regularity. remember, even Hakeem came off like a jerk early in his career. he had a bad attitude and was accused by ownership of faking an injury.

you're absolutely right...if we don't sign him long term, we gave up a ton for a very short rental. but on the bright side, either way that might put us closer to being competitive by either: 1. retaining DH going forward or 2. moving on past #assets we've been playing make believe with.

That's the real question - assuming we trade for Howard, both NJ and Houston would be left holding one of the two stars looking to play together and sufficient cap space to sign the other to a max deal. Which franchise will the two of them gravitate towards? In this situation, I have to think New Jersey holds the upper hand - Dwight seems to care more about playing there than Deron cares about playing elsewhere. Not only that, but if they wait for free agency, they'll have Lopez, Brooks, and whoever they get with their draft picks - enough assets to trade for a third star (Melo?) to assemble their own Big Three. Factor in the big stage and endorsement deals, and I don't think we can win this battle.

Points in favor of Houston - West will be easier than the East, no state income tax, Les's China connections, Prokhy's recent financial trouble, the fact that even with D Will, the Nets still blow. I just don't see it being enough to convince them, especially after we deplete the roster to get Dwight.

Still, if we make the trade and strike out, we'll finally have the chance to do what we should have done two years ago - rebuild and contend. We'll have lost out on whatever picks and prospects we might have gotten for our assets had we traded them for future considerations instead of Dwight, but if management thinks we have a realistic shot to combine Howard and Williams in H-Town, I think the potential reward (contention without sucking first) makes it worth the risk.

Remember in 98 when Randy Johnson came and it excited the fair weather fans of the Astros? Tickets were sold to sold out levels just to watch him pitch and people were talking about the Astros.

A move like this would excite the fair weather fanbase for the season/playoffs and then also pump up the regular die hards as well. Then they let the chips fall where they may in the offseason.

As constructed, this team isn't a championship caliber team. You need superstars in order to win championships in this era. And having that chance to convince Dwight to stay here might be the only way you get a superstar. And if he stays, Deron comes.

I don't think he's coming to Houston, the Rockets would have to give too much for rental purposes. He's going to the Nets, either on the trade deadline or in the off season...
