Dwight wouldn't resign here......but I'd still agree to the rental just to stop being mediocre.

No one wants to freaking be in Houston for the city. No one picks a place because of state income tax. If Howard decides to sign here long-term, it will be because of the organization, and the teammates around him.

He is the sole reason they are a perennial top 3 team in the East.

Remember what happened when LeBron left "the best" team in the East?

He could push us into top 3 in the West, but not title contenders.

Unless Morey did Jedi mind tricks this offseason.

I'm not saying it isn't worth doing (I've come full circle on that realization that being an 8th seed forever is a worse than yoyo-ing from top 3 to bottom 3), I'm just saying the chances aren't great.

They better get used to having Budinger instead of Parsons and Gragic instead of Kyle unless they are sending us Nelson for Kyle (which is only fair).

Exactly. Lebron thought he needed another "All-star buddy" to win with hence D-Will as a free agent signing convincing Howard to build here. Also, Carmelo is trying to bail from NY (just a hypothetical).

As for the no state income tax.........Howard could get the same benefit playing in Dallas AND be paired with a legitimate All-star. With that on the table, why settle for Houston?

If they would take Dally...Martin...Moris and NYk no 1 pick. (which is looking pretty good) For Howard and say glen davis or nelson or whoever they want t shed not named turkulou...we def do it.

That way we keep scola with the option of amnesty (if we need to cap space)...we also give them 3 million and they can look to either flip turk for anything they can get or amnesty him. But if they force us we still do it. Because we basically only have Lowry, Turk, (bunch of small contracts on the books) then whatever we give howard. Were looking at like less than 20 million without howard...thats insane.

Let's say you trade Lowry, Dalembert, Morris, and the NY pick for Dwight. This year that gives you:

    PG: Dragic/Flynn
    SG: Martin/Lee
    SF: Parsons/Budinger
    PF: Scola/Patterson
    C: Howard/Hill

That's a pretty damn good team right there.

But my question is, if you max-out Howard and amnesty Martin, would you have enough cap room to max-out Deron Williams, sign Motiejunas, and re-sign Dragic and Lee? If so, next season you're looking at:

    PG: Williams/Dragic
    SG: Lee/2012 2nd round pick
    SF: Parsons/Budinger
    PF: Scola/Patterson
    C: Howard/Motiejunas

That team is equal to the Thunder or the Heat IMO.

Yes I do. My bet is the Nets with Howard would be better than the Magic with Howard as long as Deron stays.

D-MO and Llull coming over next couple of season. Parsons playing his mind out as the ultimate glue guy along with Pat2 doing the dirty work. This team does not seems that bad even IF they do trade Lowry, Martin and Scola for Dwight.

yah there is no way we deal lowry in this deal unless we get an extension before... That is not worth the risk. Hes the one piece we MUST have if we can recover howard leaving us.

Because Dallas belongs to Dirk. Howard didn't want to go to the Lakers because it was Kobe's team/city. Howard wants to be "the guy".

This. But if i'm trading those three, i want at least one draft pick back; especially if i'm renting howard.

So, on the one hand you say he doesn't care about winning.

Then in the next breath you say he wants to be paired with another all-star buddy. (which seems contradictory to the whole "not caring about winning" idea)

And then you say he doesn't want to be paired with another star because he wants to be "the guy".

You're talking in total circles, man.

To me choosing to leave a team that could contend for a title to go play with one player that you're friends with (Williams happens to be a star) makes you non competitive.

The idea that he would rather not be traded to LA (A team that with him would surely contend) because he wants the spotlight makes him non competitive.
