I understand the fear about losing D12 for nothing, but I think there is something that people are underestimating.

I think Howard is not as set in stone as people think, this idea that he clearly want´s to go to the Nets is bogus, simply because were was this guy one week ago? You see, Melo clearly wanted NY, he had that in his mind all the time and he wanted to be there regardless.

And because I think this "D12 clearly wants to be a Net" is being used as if he always wanted to go there, I think that D12 doesn´t have the balls to say no to a contract extension with Houston when sitting in front of McHale, Olajuwon and Yao

Being in the middle of the pack is the worst thing possible, going strong after a rental gives you a half a season shot at a little, and gives you a long shot opportunity of having a superstar going forward. If it doesn´t happen and he walks, well guess what, we suck and DM can work his magic on the draft.

The thinking is it's hard as hell to get a superstar and we are stuck in limbo. Renting Dwight allows us to:

    - Land a star for the short-term and compete for a title this year (the West is wide open).

    - Possibly land another one this summer (at least it puts us in the conversation to pair him and Deron together).

    - Properly rebuild and draft one if he leaves.

Can't amnesty Turk if we trade for him. Could amnesty Scola if he's still a Rocket in the offseason.

Ah, that's right. Can't amnesty a player you trade for. Yikes.

Hard for me to pull a trigger on a winner the likes of Scola.

Yes, we could amnesty Scola. Although it is more likely we could actually trade him because he does have value.

I honestly think that even though he isnt going to play but 10 games the rest of this year, they want Lowry to prove that he is a point guard that Howard can legitimately contend with. Also, I would keep an eye on Montiejunas. As much as I would hate to see his rights go, he could be difference between a possible franchise changing trade and a near miss, that sends the team back to mediocrity.

Winner yes. Worth $9 million? No.

With Donatas/Patterson or Morris (one has to stay) we have a cheaper option at PF.

might as well. i don't think the #assets are going to ever add up to anything substantial in return that we're going to be able to build around....a rental on a player like Dwight, if we're able to do it, is probably the ceiling as a return for the sum of the parts of this roster. and then you just cross your fingers and hope you can retain him.

at the very least it would be interesting...compelling to the casual fan. something the rockets really need in that regard.

and how do you think orlando feels about that?

i read some tweets this morning saying front office staff in orlando was disgusted by his comments and the yo-yo effect. he changes his mind constantly.

The morey safety net is why i don't have a problem with this risk

Morey acquires good NBA players constantly.

    Lowry for and aging skip

    Bud,Parsons,Landry 2nd Rd picks

    Scola for virtually nothing

Brooks,Patterson,Morris mid to late 1st rounders.

With one tank year makes you think he won't be fully re-loaded by 13-14, maybe we get lucky and draft the star we need.

Ofcourse Dwight wants to stay the rest of the year...

    1) that doesn't change anything for Orl. they want to know what will happen AFTER this year. dwight saying he'll stay for he rest of the season makes Orl almost feel like they need to trade him.

    2) dwight wants the glory but not the scrutiny. he is hoping that his verbal comittment to the team for the season will slow rumors down. however, it is most advantageous for dwight to just opt out because he can go to a team with more talent and of his choosing.

so, what does this mean for us?

for once, we have the best scenario to rent-a-howard.

i would be calling otis every hour and trying to jedi-mind him if logic fails.

You're probably right. I just hate to admit that all of the "great" deals Morey has pulled off over the last few years will end up amounting to nothing more than 2 lottery appearances and a 60 day rental of a superstar.

That is just depressing as all hell.
